C39A746F-C5D2-47C0-9FC6-A2D8763659D9.jpeg I took a friend of my dads hunting Sunday. He wanted to shoot a doe for meat and my farm has a buck to do ratio issue.. I have way too many does. Anyway. He shot two does Sunday morning at 97 and 116 yards with my rifle hunting in a wooded area that gets a lot of traffic. Now my farm
is 194 acres of 300 yard hills. You can see a long long way... over 1k yards in several areas. But Shane asked to come sit with me this evening because he had heard I had a couple good bucks and he wanted to watch. So I brought him with me and this fella strolled out at 646 yards about 20 mins before dark... Shane was impressed with the deer, but he wouldn’t shut up about this shot. DRT. I’ve shot a lot of competitions some PRS style, F class and a couple bench rest matches so I didn’t really think much about it. Anybody else killed a pretty good one this year??

The high shoulder shot alway drops them like a rock.

I shot a nice one in Colorado with my son's Weatherby 6.5-300 @ 400 yards.

Ha-Ha....were you "cheating" an had a scope on your 30-30??

Nice buck for sure. Around here 100 yards is a long ways although next year (always "next" year) I'm gonna try my luck on the power lines where things can be a lot different. But I'd have to do a lot of practicing first.

Impressive shot sir. That’s some serious yardage,as @FullClip noted up here 100 yds. is our long range unless you can get into farmland or power lines. My longest shot was on farmland and measured out at approx. 320 yds. I shot a doe walking thru just before legal time was up. I shot her with a 300WSM,i sold the gun later though as it was overkill for deer and expensive to shoot.

That's a nice deer, and a good shot but I just can't understand the intentional shoulder shots on animals that already have so little meat.

I am red green color blind so tracking is a colossal pain in the ass. I love the bang flop process where I don’t have to call someone to look for blood

    Wow, nice shot.

I woods hunt in New England, I pretty am always looking at 100 yards max, usually in the neighborhood of 50 yards or closer.

The longest I can even practice at the ranges around me is 200 yards!

    Fair enough.

I'm partial to the neck shot for similar reasons. But much less meat loss.

I’ve had mixed results with neck shots. I’ve hit some deer at 350+ and had them drop. I’ve hit some at 35 yards and had them run

646 yards with a DEER rifle is impressive. Assuming first shot hit. Most people don't hunt with a bench rest or F-class rifle.

I shot this doe at 178 yds with my handgun. The farthest I’ve taken a deer with my handgun was an off hand shot of 282yds. The area I hunt in is restricted to shotgun only, but I prefer a handgun.

Heck of a poke with a handgun. What did you use? Contender?
