My girlfriend got me a lock pick set for Christmas. I watched a bit of YouTube how-to videos and got started on some pad locks I have. It took a little while to get a feel for the pins but I'm able to pick all 3 locks I have. Two different brinks models and a cheap harbor freight lock. I could definitely see myself getting hooked on this as a hobby. Anyone else into it?

I got into it when I bought my safe. You can't tell a good safe from a bad one if you don't understand how the locks work. I've picked a few locks here and there. Re-keyed a few also. I make my own picks. I like to view it as solving a puzzle.

Got my into it in 85-86 when I went to work at an apartment complex, had a trash can full of deadbolts with no keys. Got fairly proficient at deadbolts and passage locks.
    Ahh good times

I have always been mechanically minded, getting thru some of these locks are a joke if ya understand them. Most locks keep the lazy or really dumb ones out or in...

I highly recommend Bosnian Bill on youtube if you haven't watched his stuff. I do it a little as a hobby. Got most of my stuff from Sparrows: www.sparrowslockpicks.com

In 33 years at a FF/Rescue Tech I have never had a lock stop me lol. Not saying the lock and what it was attached to may of needed some work.

In 2012, I took a lock picking and bypassing course, for LE. It was great. I like the bypassing more than the picking. It’s a perishable skill, keep practicing.

I learned it because of work. My kids want to learn for fun. I didn’t know about the hobby aspect until my daughter showed me websites dedicated to it.

I gave up picking for more destructive methods. Picking just took to long and time was money. Cheaper to drill/cut and replace.

A lady friend gave me a training set of sample locks, tension bars and picks. Karen and I had fun with the set and we both got lots of practice. I got pretty good with them and bought some more tools and locks for my set.

I grew up with criminals and thieves and I learned a lot about gaining access to locked areas. Look for the weak point. If someone hangs a Master 15 padlock on a $2.00 hasp, attack the hasp, not the lock!

If you watched LPL you would not say that. He can open a Master lock by looking at it.

Really enlightening to see how bad most locks are.

I may use the Master thumbwheel lock pick to get into some roads that are gated for no reason other than tin pot dictator control.

I stumbled across lock pick lawyer before Christmas, it is very disturbing how bad most locks are. the one that was the most shocking was the lock police use to secure long guns in the car, magnet cuff key and a thin piece of metal could all unlock the device. I'm practicing on gun locks for now, I must have over a couple dozen, talk about easy pickings.

I've always had good results with the Redwing Size 11 Wide Lockpick Set.

I've also had spectacular results using the Mossberg 590 Lockpick Set.

But the latter isn't the quietest I'll grant you.

In some locals lock picking tools can get you into a law problem if you are not in the locksmith trade.
