Looking to load some 300gr Sierra Soft points. I have Varget, 748, & Benchmark on hand. What I don't have are magnum primers.

You guys have any data that says I can load some rounds with standard primers?

Do you use magnum or standard primer?

I use IMR-4064 which is close to Varget. W-748 and Benchmark likely won't give good case fill. I try to always use Federal 215 magnum primers in belted cases but they may not always be required with some powders.

Varget is the better choice of the three. 760 is better than 748 and Benchmark isn't a good fit for the case.

61.5gr Varget with a 300gr will give you around 2400fps in a 24 inch barrel. Varget lights well, even at that charge. The only time I used magnum primers in the .375 Holland was ammo for hunting. Practice ammo just had standard primers.

Thanks FS. I appreciate your posting. I'll move forward with Varget and standard primers.

You will not need mag primers for the 375h&h w/ Varget. I used to load fo rmine W/ 4350 & a std. primer , wokred fine. IMO, until you hit about 75gr of slower powder, a mag primer doesn't help & can hurt accuracy. I have gone to more than that in my 404jeff w/ a std primer & extremely good accuracy.

I always use Jack O'Connor's load of a 300gr. bullet w/70grs. IMR 4064, standard LR primer. Very accurate and lethal.
