I ended up with 4 gr of Titegroup, COAL of 1.118 getting 1020fps. I used almost the entire box of 100 finding this load. I have a second box that I will be loading soon.

 

Go to Hodgdon load data web site. I max out with 4.4gr and a COAL of 1.100".
Stout little load!

 

4.0 loaded to 1.130 - 1.140 Federal primers and mixed brass will get you to about 1050-1075 fps from a 5 inch barrel.

 

Pistol powders have been in short supply in the Atlanta market and CCI 500 primers are nowhere to be found. All I can find is Titegroup right now and I have a pound or two of it in stock. Six months ago it was HS-6 and that still pops up every now and again. I am in Memphis for Thanksgiving and I have gotten 3 bricks of primers and 2 lbs of Power Pistol powder (my preferred 9mm powder).

HS-6 is one of the best 9mm major powder you can get, also low flash,
very good for so many calibers.

Am down to about 11lbs, that means I will not be using much till I can
get some more, still have others in reserve.

 

Powder has been in short supply in my neck of the swamp and when the Titegroup was available that's what I got. Thanks for the input guys.

 

I was at Cabelas in Augusta last month and they had plenty of cci 500 for about 32 bucks for1000

Good to know. I will be traveling between Atlanta and Charleston for work this December. Augusta is on the way. I pick up most of my supplies while I am on the road as the Atlanta market is severely understocked on reload supplies and 22lr. I have found that the ammo pricing in the ATL is some of the highest in the nation.

 

Cabelas has the 2015 Hodgdon Reloading magazine and there is info there on the 124 gr. XTP and Titegroup.

Hornady's 9th edition calls for an OAL of 1.060 for the 124 gr. HP XTP. Stick with that for your OAL.

Sierra manual for their 125 gr JHP w/ WSP primer, in a Hi-Point C-9 w/ 4" Barrel:
3.7 = 1000 fps
3.9 = 1050
4.2 = 1100
4.4 = 1150 (MAX)

Speer manual for their 124 gr Gold Dot HP, w/ CCI 500 primer, in a S&W 5906 w/ 4" Barrel:
4.0 = 1020
4.4 = 1095 (MAX)

I'd suggest starting with 3.7 and work up.

Yep. When I first saw that in my 2003 Sierra Edition 5 Third Printing I was stunned but it makes sense. All they really needed was a chambered barrel. Apparently they didn't feel the need to run new data from a different gun.
