Make no mistake, all those great smells aren't going to waste, and that dog is in a nice and comfortable trance. Besides, he knows he'll be gettin' some of that eventually. Sayonara.
Why would a dog purposely follow his owner to the land of the human stink bomb? Like Dr. Smith always said on "Lost In Space"... "Oh, the pain, the pain...". Sayonara.
My two buds, both from the local pound. Got the poodle/terrier mix (I call him a “Poo-ier” more from some early misunderstandings of house rules). The “Chug” came a 6 months later as he needed a buddy and fast friends they became.
Well good for you and especially them. Now you have double the "Great Karma" and double the fun/trouble. Sayonara.
Two dogs are great. They tend to take care of each other. Fewer behavioral problems. Longer life.

I’m on #12 and 13 right now. When I lose a dog another always shows up. I can’t imagine being without a dog. When I die I hope the biggest problem my kids have is who gets the dogs.
Ya, didn't know if I'd be able to bear losing my boy, but I'm warming up to this kid...
