GALLATIN, Tenn. – Two suspects were killed after one dressed as a leprechaun and robbed a Gallatin Bank Wednesday afternoon.

The robbery happened at First State Bank at 1135 Nashville Pike in Gallatin around 1 p.m.

According to witness Bradley Webb, a suspect dressed as a leprechaun walked into a Fifth Third Bank at 1131 Nashville Pike. Webb believed the suspect quickly walked back out because the location was too crowded. The suspect then went to the First State Bank next door.

Police said that was when the suspect robbed the bank and fled the scene.

Webb said he got in his vehicle and followed the suspects. Police began pursuing the suspects' vehicle. Webb backed off when he heard shots fired.

St. Bill Torment with the Gallatin Police Department confirmed that the suspects shot at an officer.

Torment said the officer's police cruiser was hit by several bullets at the intersection of Highway 109 and Highway 25. Critical operating systems were apparently hit, and the vehicle stopped working.

Police eventually caught up with the suspects in a field near the Cambridge Farms subdivision. Officials said one suspect was killed by a police officer, and the other suspect apparently committed suicide.

The specific details leading to the suspects' deaths were unknown at this time. The Gallatin Police Department has scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. to release more information.

It looks like a lot of the "suspects" are starting to committ suicide when they cannot shoot their way out of situations with the cops. It's happened many times in this area lately. Works for me. Go for it guys!

Excellent shooting by the officer. Those wee little people are very difficult to hit on the move.

Guess "luck of the Irish" doesn't always mean good luck.
