Legal transport to and from range

Please clarify how to legally transport guns to and from the range.

Describe proper procedures for car (with trunk), and SUV (big openness).

Don't forget to explain the difference between now before th HouseBill goes in place and later this year.

When I first seen this, I thought I would let someone that knows more then me answer it.

I think that you cannot have a handgun in a car as it stands know. I think that a long gun is still under the “ready at hand” restriction. I think that when the new law takes effect then you will not be able to have a loaded gun or loaded mags.

I’m sure you could find out for sure from BFA or OFCC.

The link above will explain the new law as of Sept. 9.

Currently, put the handgun in a locked case furthest away from the driver, being a trunk or rear of the SUV. NO AMMO in mags or speedloaders. NO AMMO in that case. The ammo must be stored destinctly separate from the gun. Can not put locked gun case inside your range bag with the box of ammo, otherwise, you've just LOADED your gun.

Thank you, that was what I was loking for.

Sec 2923.16 (K)(5) "Unloaded" means, with any of the following:
(a) No ammunition is in the firearm in question, and no ammunition is loaded into a magazine or speed loader that may be used with the firearm in question and that is located anywhere within the vehicle in question, without regard to where ammunition otherwise is located within the vehicle in question.

When I went to training on Saterday, the above was stated.

When I went to the range on Sunday, I asked some Government types, and got a different answer. They also high-lighted the hunter safety booklet.

IMHO, this is a MAJOR CLUSTER FK.

Gee, why is it that comes as no surprise!:dunno:

In truth, the gubmint types are only concerned with the law as goes into effect as of sept 9th, on about sept 8th.

and that's about the day I'd expect them to get a briefing that they'll forget about 3 minutes after roll call regarding the changes.

This "big deal" to us is just but one of 100 changes they'll be briefed on this year....

Actually it is.
The guy is someone I have known for years. He is a gun supporter, NRA member, ....

I wouldn't be overly disappointed in your friend's lack of knowledge. Even though a "gun supporter, NRA member", unless he eats, breathes, lives gun laws like we do at Buckeye Firearms, we wouldn't expect everyone to fully understand the laws. When you live it 24/7/365, it makes a huge difference.

Heck, there's a lot of LEO's out there who think that because you have a CHL, that it is against the law to open carry. One has zero to do with the other.

My bigger concern are all of the concealed carry instructors out there who are giving the wrong information to their students.:faint:
Thanks Linda
Yeah I transport my AR15 and pistols like that to the range even though I have a CCP.
