Does one wear the finish off Glocks or other handguns more than the other?

This is just my experience with leather and kydex holsters. I have noticed that my G23 had a little more wear from an all leather holster than with a kydex and kydex/leather hybrid holster. I think the wear from the leather holster was from me not thoroughly cleaning the inside (of holster) prior to break in it in. The wear is very minimal though, mine are all Gen 3's.

Leather is more abrasive, (also moisture absorbent) than Kydex and will wear the finish off in a more global, sanded fashion. Kydex will affect areas of direct metal to kydex contact (more streaky, spotty, or linear), and can be avoided with some lube (Armor All, or other silicone type stuff).

Thanks for the info... I've been using Galco leather holsters to carry and was thinking about switching to a Kydex holster of some sort...

Keep kydex clean (I use compressed air) and it will barely cause any finish wear on your weapon......in my experience!

Well I have a definitive answer for you. My MTAC is leather on one side and kydex on the other. The side of the gun that sits on the leather is significantly more worn than the side that touches the kydex.

Carried guns will show wear over time no matter what. Does not affect function, useless to fret about it.

If you want a pretty gun, keep it inside the box, and don't pull on the slide either, it will mark up the barrel.

Leather will show more wear on a gun . If its a Glock I wouldn't worry about it and get whatever holster fits and feels best

This has been my experience as well with the MTAC's. Noticeably more wear on the leather vs kydex side.

My Kydex Holster SNAPPED from usage at the point it attaches to my BELT. Lifetime Warranty is KAPUT.

Leather lasts if you take care of it!

My glock has some wear on the slide from were it slides on the kydex of the holster. Some of the black paint has worn down, it's visible.

Ok so I'm about to pick up a kimber ultra carry II and I'm not exactly sure what the slide coating is (blued?), but I'm sure it will wear a lot faster than my glock.

So should I get leather? kydex?
I currently have a white hat hybrid, would it show the least wear?

The answer to your question is already in the thread. Leather wears faster but more evenly than kydex.

I guess you're right, but I assumed that was more glock oriented, and with different coatings I wasn't sure if it affected it differently.

    Sorry about that.

Haha no worries, it will pretty much be universal for all guns. Some guns will just show wear faster than others.

The finish on my G17 has not been worn off at all by my Bianchi 4/4L after 23 years.

Same experience with a crossbreed. I switched to all Kydex 2 years ago. Much better. May not be a comfy as the crossbreed, but it's not bad.
