I use one of those large plastic buckets found in the garden section of most hardware places (there the ones with the rope handles that come in all kinds of colors). They hold about 15-20 gallons and don't get knocked over. My Dane needs to have his food and water elevated so that he can get to them easily so it helps with that as well.

Is that maybe something like you would go bobbing for apples in? Do I have the right thing in my head?

Exactly. I was going to post a link, but for the life of me can't find anything. For such a simple common item it's hard to locate on the internet.

My biggest problem so far is my APBT likes to give herself a nice cool bath after she gets hot from running around. As soon as were back in the yard she heads straight for it and jumps in. It's pretty funny.

Really? Mine LOVES the water. If it wasn't for the fence she'd be in the pool all day and she loves going to the lake.

I use what pjrocco has and it never gets turned over. I have it on hardwood flooring and it doesn't slide around, either.

Our dog doesn't accidentally knock his water bowl over. He splashes most of it out on the floor with a digging motion and then lies down in the puddle. I guess it feels good or something. Good thing it's a tile floor.
