If it wasn't the dumbest thing I've EVER done, it must have been a close second !

Dunbo (me) left his laptop on the floor and stepped on it the next day...I know, at least I admitted it :)

Now I need a new screen.. or a refurbished one maybe..

Anyone have an idea of how much and where to get it installed ?

    It's a 14.1" recent model Compaq laptop.

    Thanks in advance !!!!!

Screens can be damned expensive! Ebay is your best bet.

take it apart and find out who makes the screen and the part number. I have a compaq computer screen at work I might be able to sell.

Only replace whats actually broken. Laptop screens are made up of a few components, the housing, LCD, backlight, inverter and cable.

Housing is the plastic/metal frame for the LCD, shouldn't be too much.
LCD - the most expensive single component, take apart your screen to get an actual model # and manufacturer name, wholesle these can run about $200.
Backlight - a cold cathode light tube, same width as your screen ~ $30 on Ebay.
Inverter - small circuit board, provides the voltage conversion to power the backlight - can be had on Ebay for $30.
Cable - connects power/signal from the motherboard to the inverter and the LCD - typically about $90.
