why do you suppose this Gate topic is so poorly attended and reviewed for assistance?
I suspect that either most folks aren't familiar with night vision or are not far enough along in their shooting evolution to see a need for it.
What is the need for it? I could see it being useful for hunting and military applications, what else is there?
Some reasons. The commercial market developed with weird, hard to obtain batteries, over hyped results. There are probably a lot of us who know binos and other optics and are waiting (in vain) for a decent NV to come out in a pair of binos for around $500-600. Some of actually owned 1st and 2nd generation equipment that was unsatisfactory.
Also, night optical devices have limited utility in urban or suburban environments. There are usually many lights around that both provide visual access and inhibit the effectiveness of NODs. Most of us reside in urban/suburban communities...
It's pretty much the best force multiplier ever invented. Hunting and military applications cover a broad spectrum.
Has the price came down?
If anything the price continues to rise with the refinements, options and clarity that is coming on the market.
You are correct, if you don't need to see in the dark or limited light there is not much use night vision.
