Liberal talk-radio network Air America to cease operations
Air America, the talk-radio network that helped boost the careers of liberals Al Franken and Rachel Maddow, said Thursday it was going out of business.

In a statement to employees of the New York-based network, Air America's chairman, Charlie Kireker, wrote: "It is with the greatest regret, on behalf of our Board, that we must announce that Air America Media is ceasing its live programming operations as of this afternoon, and that the Company will file soon under Chapter 7 of the Bankruptcy Code to carry out an orderly winding-down of the business.

"The very difficult economic environment has had a significant impact on Air America's business. This past year has seen a 'perfect storm' in the media industry generally. . . . In this climate, our painstaking search for new investors has come close several times right up into this week, but ultimately fell short of success."

Air America launched in March 2004 and styled itself as a liberal alternative to conservative talk radio hosts such as Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. Although at one point its programming was heard on as many as 100 stations nationwide, it ran into financial trouble early. It filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in October 2006 and was sold to new investors for $4.25 million in early 2007.

Among its program hosts were Franken, who went on to win election to the U.S. Senate as a Democrat, and Maddow, who became the host of a prime-time program on MSNBC. The company also hired Ron Reagan Jr., rapper Chuck D and musician Steve Earle to host shows.

I'm amazed the network remained on the air as long as it did. Did ya ever listen to it? Good God, I've never heard more puerile, self-serving horsecrap in my life. Liberals can't talk about liberalism for more than 30 seconds at a time, and not frighten away their audience.

    Very bad news!

Now there is no reason NOT to stomp out the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, Liddy, etc.

A year or so ago, Boortz contributed money to Air America because he felt that their presence gave his show some protection.

Yeah, honestly, I can't stand self-righteous blowhards who get paid to preach to the choir on the radio. I'd really like to see an end to most talk radio, in general.

A guy can hope, can't he?

I would like to see an end to protected speech, why should people have a right to express themselves. If it was that important they would have put something in the constitution to protect speech.

Right, cause that's totally my obvious meaning.

I prefer discourse, Hanity, Limbaugh, Beck, Miller are not interested in discourse, they aren't interested in discussion at all. They sit in their booths and preach the same tired ideas to the same people who already agree with them.

I'm all for their right to do it, I just wish they better manners than to do so.

Thankfully I have two knobs on my radio, one changes the station and the other turns it up, down and off. It's no affront to me what they do, I just wish they wouldn't do it. Just like I wish the liberal fools would keep their silly ideas off the radio waves too.
