I watched a couple episodes of a show called "Bait Car" earlier tonight. It involves bait car operations run by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office.

In one scene of the show, an L.A. County detective appeared to be carrying some sort of 1911 IWB. Research suggests that it probably wasn't a 1911, as they are not authorized.

    What could it have been?

    Any ideas?

IIRC doesn't their SWAT group carry the 1911? Perhaps he was authorized for it because he is involved in SWAT or the other special operations group.

Kimber supplied 1911's for several LA special units. Like above, he was probably attached to one.

That. Also detectives in a lot of departments can carry what they want as long its above a minimum caliber, generally 9mm.

In addition it could have been grandfathered in from an earlier time.

Most LASO deputies I have seen carry Beretta 92's on duty.

LASO currently issues the Beretta Model 92FS. (a replacement is being tested)

As with the LAPD, special units within the LASO are authorized to use certain types of 1911s. LASO also has a list of approved handguns that their deputies can carry, if they choose to purchase & carry their own sidearm.
