Both are excellent intermediate level 1911s. I would be hard-pressed to choose one over the other. I basicly boils down to personal preference.

Kimber Custom II

and another Kimber Custom II

STI SPARTAN

I own 16 Kimbers and I do not have a problem with any of them. Of course, there is always someone that is going to be unhappy about something. Anytime something is mass produced, there lies the possibility of getting past QC. Like I said, I have had no issues with any of mine.

I recently purchased a Kimber Custom TLE/RL II. The gun has been flawless through 300 rounds, and is a blast to shoot. I would recommend the Kimber. Like a few people have said though, anything that is produced in large numbers you're going to have a lemon every now and then.

I have 3 kimbers. A cdp, tle and a target II in 38 super. All have been 100% reliable. The TLE has around 15k through it.

I shoot with a Friend that's an older Bulls Eye Competitor. He has a Custom II in 9mm. At the last shooting range session it was fun to watch him place round after round into pretty much one hole at about ten yards. No malfunctions, light weight, pretty good trigger. I dislike the matt/dull finish on the pistol but it seems to run darn well.

I've never owned a Kimber, so can't give it a thumbs up or down. I do own STIs, including the Spartan, and think it is an excellent deal for the money. Very accurate and well put together. As noted earlier, the Spartan is built in the Philippines, frame and barrel are made there and the internals come from STI (TX). STI does QC before they go to dealers.
