This would be my first 1911. I have a Kimber on order but now i'm not sure when it will get here. The Colt is available now if I want to switch for a few bucks more. Any feedback would help. I have shot a Custom II at the range and liked it but never tried a Colt.

Stick with the Kimber... It is a much better firearm...

Check out buckeye outdoors on the kimber, it is also know as vances. You may find a better price on the gun. The custom II is next on my list.

The Custom II is a great 1911 for the price and will shoot at least as good as the Colt, but the Colt is the better quality gun overall.

It will also hold its value better than the Kimber.

    LOL, no you haven't. :)

I actually like Kimber better than Colt overall. I was simply saying that the Colt uses less MIM and will hold its value.

I have always fired Kimbers better and I carry one each day. I prefer Colts as base guns for custom builds.

Out of the two I would stick with the Kimber.. spend the extry on ammo..

Pretty much what I was going to say.....but you'd be hard pressed to screw up buying either of those guns. Also look at the TLE.

Yeah, but TLE price = Trojan price, and I'd take the Trojan over either of those every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Don't get me wrong...if I HAD to buy a Kimber....the TLE would be it. I'd just put my $1k into something else.

Based on my experiences with fit, finish and reliability with my Super Carry Pro vs my Combat Elite, I'd take the Colt over the Kimber.

Well that is what I meant... I said that the Kimber was a better built product, which I was wrong... :)

The Colt XSE models made in the last couple of years are excellent. Quality control has improved. The chance of getting a lemon is extremely small. The ones I've seen at the range have functioned flawlessly.

Hey guys thanks for the input! The Kimber is $805 the Colt is $885 so maybe a little more than a few but at this point $80 isnt a deal breaker.

for that...if the Colt's works for you...that's what I would get...and I have a Kimber Custom II with no issues a well as a Colt's XSE Government (both customized with nearly the same type of work)...but you really won't go wrong with either...around here just a regular XSE Government would be the price you quoted...and as bac noted...better innards on the Colt's than the Kimber...

That's pretty good. I paid $950 for my CE. I really like my CE especially since I had the front strap checkered.
