I have a chance to pick one up. It is in excellent shape, very little wear on the frame rails at all. An older gentleman owned it and sold it for a smaller caliber as he couldn't shoot .45acp well anymore.
It has the heavy melt treatment. It is in the CCO configuration. The slide is Commander length at 4.25" while the frame is an Officers sized frame. I like the fact it lacks the Schwatz safety as I feel that it has absolutely no place on a weapon that may be used for serious work.

I have shot and carried 1911's my entire life and prefer them over all other pistols. The only thing that comes close is my Glock 19. I love that gun!

Anyway, what do some actual owners have to say about this gun as far as reliability and durability?

Very good pistol from when Kimber made very good pistols. Optimum CCW 1911 IMHO.

Outstanding find on your part. I have been looking for one for years. You are making me jealous, to say the least.

    Jump on it.

I had one and loved it. The series I were all custom shop fitted IIRC.

I have a Series I Ultra carry that I have had for probably 15 years. Excellent gun. Not a fan of the 3" guns but this one runs and runs and runs and runs.

I have a Kimber series I and it is very good. From what I understand the first series II units had extractor problems.

In a constant state of disbelief,
I have 2 Kimbers now, a series 1 Stainless Ultra Carry that I absolutly love for concealed carry, and a Crimson Pro Carry II that I used for 3 years as a L.E. Duty Weapon. Either gun is excellent, although I do love the series 1 a hair more as it isn't made anymore.

I had originally gotten a 3.5" Amigo and just didn't care for the length, too close in length to the Pro Carry, so I sold it and got the Stainless Ultra, from the GF's Dad in trade for a G30. He wanted less controls, more rounds, I wanted a 3" Kimber. Worked out perfect.

I wouldn't trade either of my Kimbers. Or my full size Taurus PT1911, first run. 3 of the most accurate guns I own.

I had an Utra and sold it, not because of issues, I wanted a 3" Super carry.

This is a great find. Buy it. For those of you wanting a Gen I gun, the new Super Carry Line of pistols are Gen I and have no SFPB.

If you're getting it for under a grand you are doing well and getting an excellent carry piece. Before you order a holster, I thought the slide was always 4" on the compact both series 1+2. fwiw my series 2 compact runs terrific on Rem Golden Saber 230s

There really is no Kimber Custom Shop, it's just a roll mark.

I carry a series I Pro Carry model and it has been flawless. It's my 1st and only Kimber and has become one of my favorite guns. In fact because of the success I've had with it I was left scratching my head at all the Kimber bashing I've heard.

I have two series one Kimbers. Both have been excellent. I have several 1911's that are theoretically "better", being semi-customs from respected manufacturers. Still, I constantly reach for those series one Kimbers. They shoot a lot better than they should. Buy it.
