My 13-year old daughter asked if she could go with me to the range yesterday. I said , "absolutely!"

The significant Double-x chromosome wife entity has no problems with this so, we're on for next weekend.

We've always had guns in the house and she's never asked to hold, touch or shoot them. She's never handled a gun before in her life.
I'll bring the .22 and, with it completely empty , show her the ropes.

What age were you when you pulled the trigger on your first live round?

First live round was 6. Christmas when I was 9, I got my first gun and was hunting by myself that winter. I lived on a farm though. Sears 410 and I still have it.

Didn't shoot a rifle or shotgun till age ten.
    That's when I shot a 12 Gauge Mossy and a Garand.

Seven years old on my dad's .380 acp......a few weeks later I had "my own" Marlin .22lr lever action. But I wasn't a real cowboy until I got my .22lr Single-Six revolver at nine years old.

You are dating yourself with that statment. I bet 70%-80% of the members here weren't alive when you could still by a gun through the mail from Sears.

I was 12 or 13 the first time I went to the range. There's nothing more fun at the age of 15 than rapid fire with an AK.

BB gun for Christmas when I was 8, a .22 rifle for my birthday at 12, a 12 ga shotgun for birthday at 16, was given the money, and went to the local gun store and bought it myself - no paper, background check, etc.....

I was the oldest of 5 brothers. We shared a single bedroom. I kept my guns hanging on a wall in the bedroom, and the ammo in my drawer of our shared dresser right next to my socks & undies.

NEVER a problem with siblings even touching my guns - no "incidents" what-so-ever.

Grandpas and uncles all had loaded shotguns behind their bedroom doors - not so much for home protection, its just that you never knew when a nice fat deer might wander by, (or a rabid raccoon)

My Dad fought in the Pacific and Korea. When I asked for a gun as a kid he replied, "you see any ***** or **** marching down the street?" (insert un-p.c. terms for Japanese/North Koreans). I fought those bastards so you don't need to carry a gun!" I've never been able to come up with a counter-argument. HH

Well How 'bout that! My dad fought the Japanese in the south Pacific too. He retired a CWO2 inthe Navy. He was 52 when I was born. I just turned 50. I can remember asking him to take me shooting at around 10, just like my daughter asked me. He was more than happy to teach me about firearm safety and basic marksmanship. At 16, I could put a .22 through the open end of a coke bottle and knock the bottom out. I can't do that now since I started wearing glasses. Dad passed at 78. I miss him...

I was 6 or 7 when I shot my first rifle that wasn't air powered! It was a marlin model 60 with my grandpa.
