Two Malibu Residents Killed In Apparent Bear Attack
    Incident Happens In Alaska

"....The Andrew Airways pilot contacted troopers in Kodiak and the National Park Service in King Salmon after he saw a brown bear, possibly on top of a body, in the camp Monday afternoon.

Park rangers encountered a large, aggressive male brown bear within minutes of arrival at the campsite. Katmai park Ranger Joel Ellis said two officers stood by with shotguns as he fired 11 times with a semi-automatic handgun before the animal fell 12 feet away.

"That was cutting it thin," said Ellis, the lead investigator in the case. "I didn't take the time to count how many times it was hit." ........"

Which semi-automatic handgun do Alaskan Park Rangers carry?

More important that what type of handgun do they carry.

Why weren't the 2 officers with the shotguns also engaging the bear.

If I had 2 co-workers stand by with shotguns and not shoot while I engaged a bear with a handgun I'd be more than a little upset and probably do some but kicking afterwards.

Its like Russian Roulette only with bears. A test or right of passage into the Warden/Ranger community. If you don't pass, you get eaten alive while your buddies stand by laughing.

Too many bambi movies when they were young, or maybe it was all the drugs they were using.
    Stupid idiots playing with bears.
Should have seen the ditz on this mornings news show from grizzlypeople.com. Totally ignorant environmentalist.

This is one of the most sickening thread I've seen in this forum ( nothing aganist the poster ). This idiot ( Treadwell ) who has a history with considering a brown bear harnless and known to crawl up to Sows with cubs and touch bears and now he is dead.

    Wow , I'm not surprise.;Q

Even more sickening is the fact that we humans kill this bear and it was probably doing what it wa suppose todo by nature. We are always very quick to kill what nature does on instinct and by design and even if we stupid humans don't follow the rules.

IMHO: Treadwell and the lady got what they deserved

I'm certainly no bear expert, but isn't one of the first things the "experts" say is that bears are unpredictable? Even tame animals can be unpredictable. With varying and uncontrolled conditions present in nature over the years such as lack of food, young present, bear sickness, hunters or human presence, people feeding animals, wouldn't these animals be especially unpredictable and therefore to be avoided completely or observed only at a safe distance. These people were victims of there own arrogance and stupidity.

100% agreed and the bear pays for it with his/her life.

As least these two won't be passing their "stupid" genes on to another generation.

He was in his 40's and his girlfriend was mid 30's.

They had plenty of time to leave some of their DNA along the way.

    Go to his web site and look out the main page and read his statement or just read it below;

"Grizzly People is a grassroots organization devoted to preserving bears
and their wilderness habitat. Our goal is to elevate the grizzly to the kindred state
of the whale and dolphin through supportive education
in the hopes that humans will learn to live in peace with the bear,
    wilderness and fellow humans."

Yeah if he was really interested in preserving bears, he would leave them alone. They don't need our interference or help.
