Corrections Officer's Killer Sentenced To Death
Hall Convicted Of Stabbing, Killing Donna Fitzgerald

    POSTED: 10:56 am EST January 15, 2010
    UPDATED: 1:18 pm EST January 15, 2010

    DELAND, Fla. --
The inmate convicted of stabbing and killing a Florida corrections officer was sentenced to death Friday.

Just before 11 a.m., Judge J. David Walsh handed down the ruling, agreeing with a jury that Enoch Hall should be put to death.

Hall had no visible reaction when the death sentence was handed down. He was given the opportunity to make a statement, but chose not to.

Attorneys for Hall said he is resigned to his fate.

Hall was convicted of killing corrections guard Donna Fitzgerald at Tomoka State Prison in October. The incident happened in June 2008 when Fitzgerald was working an extra shift and went to find Hall who had lagged behind the other inmates. When Fitzgerald found and confronted Hall, he attacked her, beating her and repeatedly stabbing her with a homemade knife.

The courtroom was packed Friday morning with numerous corrections officers who held pink roses in their hands as a remembrance of Fitzgerald.

Fitzgerald's family said a violent man who was serving two life sentences for rape got what he deserved.

"Just elation. Just total satisfaction that my sister's murder did not go unjust. That's what she deserved. She went through a lot and she fought hard," sister Dana Shure said.

The judge gave great weight to the fact that Hall planned the murder, and gave little weight to the defense's claims that Hall has mental health issues and had taken some medications before the killing.

Hall was immediately remanded to secure custody and will be transferred to death row. Besides attorneys, no one was in the courtroom on Hall's behalf.

Fitzgerald's family said that although the sentence brings closure, nothing changes that she is forever lost to them.

In a way, I have to respect Hall. He knew what he did was wrong and, ultimately, took responsibility. No whining about how it was society's fault and all that. Better than a lot of the folks at GT's Carry Issue & GNG Lounge.

When's the execution date so we can fire off some bottle rockets and piss in his general direction?

yeah...that's the bad part...how long it takes to actually get to the execution part. As for him taking responsibility for his actions, we'll see how many appeals he puts through to try and get out of it.

    And meanwhile......guess who pays for the scumbag's 3 squares a day....and "lodging"...?!:steamed:
At least...when it DOES happen...execution will be by lethal injection....if it were Utah....death might be by firing squad....and a total waste of good ammo!!!

Utah no longer does the firing squad option, IIRC.
