For my third glock decided on a 23. What a beauty. She shoots like a dream. For range I been shooting Remington UMC 180 gr FMJ and for CCW I use Speer Gold Dot 165 gr GDHP.

IMO it's hard to tell the difference between by 19 and my 23. Having said that, it does depend on what grain round you use. There is a wee bit of difference between a 115 gr FMJ and 180 gr JHP round.

I have owned my G23 since 94 and I love it still. IMO, it is the best Glock model.

I'm trying to decide between the G23 and the XD-45 for a home defense weapon.
I'm going to put a Surefire on it also.

I think that either would serve you well. For me the Glock would take it because I am sued to them. Also, I have seen to many issues with the finish on the XDs.

Not to start a flame war here, but I do not think that either round is better than the other (gasp!). The .40 delivers performance so close to the .45 round that the difference is negligible. The hat at that point tips to capacity, and the .40 wins there.

I really like the G23. I still play with the G36 every once in a while and carry it around the yard though.

The recoil is very manageable, especially with the larger grain rounds. You'll feel more "snap" with the 155gr & 165gr and more of a "push" with the 180gr (the 180gr has a 45acp feel IMHO).

Like any firearm, it's just a matter of becoming familiar with the pistol. If you can handle a 9mm 124+P or 127+P+ I can't see you having a problem with shooting 165gr in the 40. Rent one for a test drive!

FWIW- I have a M3 on my 22 and it makes a great night-stand gun!

The 23 is my favorite Glock, it is sweet. Recoil wise, some folk shave medical issues - but otherwise it's not bad at all. People shoot the magnum revolvers well, and they have more!!! recoil. The .40 auto isn't bad at all, once we get past the idea of gunshots going off in front of our face.

Congrats on the G23. I love my G22 and am going to add the G23 to my family after the layaway payoff of the G19 for my girlfriend.

I too have had a 23 since 94. Great gun. Its my carry gun in the winter ...I carry my 27 in the summer. I stoke both with cor-bon +p 135gr hp. Very easy to handle IMO.

I agree. I also find most 180gr. loads to have more of a .45-like push vs. the harder snap of the hotter 155/165gr. loads.
