It needs the upgrades but I was wondering if I really need to send it back to Glock for them or can a local gunsmith do the upgrades?

My ignorance knows no bounds. Just what are the "upgrades"?

As per Glock(per my serial #), there are a couple of upgrades to a second generation they will perform to the gun that include a firing pin part and a couple of other parts.

Find a LOCAL Glock Certified Armorer to do the upgrades.
Request to keep ALL removed parts, not NOT part with the magazines!

I have an ATKxxxUS 2nd Gen G19, manufacturered in Jan '94
It's UNFIRED, since leaving the Glock factory.

Any Certified Glock Armorer can order and install the parts for you. He will need your serial number. You can also take your pistol to the GSSF (Glock) match in Jackson, NJ next June and have the work done on the spot while you wait. There is nothing wrong with your older parts. I have a 1988 G17L with all original internals that I use in competition.

Thats what I was wondering. When I asked the Glock rep, he told me they suggested getting the work done and would not go further than that.

I would assume it's because of the liability.
