I was going to buy AK #12 but decided to get AR #2 instead. I guess technically it will be AR #3 because I got a stripped lower receiver at the gun show yesterday. My first was the Colt LE6920 which I will most likely leave unfired NIB for collector purposes. The M&P I will definitely shoot though! Can't wait to see it, hopefully later this week, depending on Davidson's shipping times!

    ETA............

    Picked it up last night!!!

Anyone have one? Tips? Accessories I should buy? Any and all advice is appreciated, THANKS! :)

You're going to love it. To me, the main appeal of an AR is their light weight. I didn't want to attach 40 lbs of accessories to mine, so all I have added is a light weight Vortex red dot, and I swapped out the mil-spec grip for an Ergo Grip. Very fun and shootable carbine!

Gosh, you mean you don't want to be a spec ops wanna be? High speed low drag? Just kidding you. I agree, a basic gun with good sights serves best for the vast majority of shooters and I thing the G Guru will have a good time with it. Don

LOL:). I wanted something inexpensive but excellent quality and I've heard only good things about the M&P. I didn't want another WASR 10 and I already have two AK pistols. I am going to use the receiver that I bought yesterday to build an AR pistol so that should keep me happy for at least a few months :) lol

You'll be very happy with your choice. A lot of folks call them cheap, but a better description would be inexpensive. They're like your favorite Lego set. You can add anything and everything.

Here it is wearing a free float Troy Alpha Battle rail, Lantac Dragon muzzle brake, Magpul Pro BUIS, Magpul CTR stock and MOE pistol grip, topped off with a Primary Arms 30mm Red dot (it now has an Aim Point Comp M2 on top).

I think you're going to enjoy it a lot!

Mine's been a good shooter, you'll like it.

Fun fact of the day; My BCM RECCE-16 weighs a half-ounce less than a box-stock M&P Sport.

Love my Sport. It came with Magpul furniture and I put a Vortex Strikefire Red Dot on it. Great gun, fun to shoot.

I love the way it looks here, very nice!!!

THANK YOU ALL for the replies! Here is a question....

For someone whose eyes aren't what they used to be and can't use the iron sights very well, what optic would you recommend?

Again, thanks for the replies and advice!

Red dot for close range and telescopic sight for long range.

    Cool, thanks :)

Are there red dot sights where you can adjust the size of the dot?

I don't think that there are red dot sights that have size adjustable. I know there's an Israeli red dot (not Meprolight) that has different reticules that you can choose (4 different ones, I think). Or you can go with a triangular reticule and use the tip for fine aiming then the whole triangle for close aiming.

I've found that the reticle size mattered very little because they're illuminated and you see them pretty good anyway.

I also found that the big circle with dot in the middle reticule of the Eotech seems to speed up target acquisition for me. I haven't timed it against a plain jane dot/triangle, but it just seems even more natural. Maybe it's a placebo effect?

You can turn it up or down. Why would you want to adjust the dot size though?

I just mean, if you pick a 2-4 MOA dot, you can adjust brightness to change the apparent size. There aren't many applications I can think of where an actual adjustable dot size would really make sense.

In any case, I am a fan of Aimpoint. They're just the most headache-free optics I've used. A 2 MOA dot is good for just about anything, in my experience.
