So I've just purchased my first Glock. (the damn G-## Confuse me so bear with me)

It's a 5" .40 with fiber optic front sight and tombstone cut slide. (G36 i think)

Anyway, I've read alot of bad things about .40+glock = kaboom.

What's the skinny on this?

Is it a reloading thing? A design thing? Or a Material Thing?

Thanks~

The model number is on the slide, should be pretty easy to see...It is either a 22, 23, 24, 27, or 35...sounds like a 35 to me!

I got it in a trade. Yes, G35. Sorry. Not G36.

Anyway, before I got it I thought the .40+glock thing was a reloading issue, and since I dont reload, it didn't concern me. But i joined here to read more and stumbled across a story online about a 40 kabooming with factory ammo.

I don't want to worry about it every time I shoot it. So could someone please explain to me what the deal is?

Thanks!

I'm not a pro, but have the G27 (.40) and have about 600 rounds through it (factory ammo) with no problems. Also it was used when I bought it. From what I understand, as long as you're using jacketed ammo, no lead, your good to go. The glock barrel doesn't like lead. Check out this video on lead in glock barrels. (and feel free to watch every video of this guy, he's awesome.)

You have nothing to worry about...if you look hard enough you will find horror stories involving every single caliber imaginable. It is a Glock, have fun, and shoot the hell out of the damn thing!

Most of my handguns are .40 But I was mostly curious as to whether i should be concerned about safety shooting a glock 40.
I've shots thousands of rounds through my 40 glocks. No problems. Kb's are usually related to reloading with weakened brass or an over charged round.

So are the worries about the 40 founded on some fact? Some places basically state that they would not shoot a Glock 40 without an aftermarket barrel installed.

Thanks for the help guys.

As stated, look around enough and you'll see KB's for just about everything. Look really hard and you'll see a pic showing that earlier gens of Glocks had less barrel support than they do today. I know I did when I put up a post here about the same topic.

Ironically, I saw a Remington .22 cal have a KB just 2 days ago. The mag shot out the bottom, and big blast hit my buddies face. Luckily he was OK. He showed me the casing last night and I told him "thats called a kaboom, go google it".

like others said problems can happen with any firearm, I have a G35 and like it a lot but for me I just buy quality factory ammo for it and so far no problem. the other thing I don't do is major mods since is in rotation for carry SD.

My 1st Glock was a G35 and I've had all the .40s since. My carry is a G23. I like the .40 round and you'll find the G35 is very accurate due to the longer barrel. Add to that 15+1 and you can't go wrong.
I shoot only factory ammo, no steel case, copper wrapped ball and JHP and have never had any problem - no FTFs or anything. The stuff I've read about kabooms usually are blamed on reloads that are too strong even though Glocks are rated for +P.
Only thing is, you might check the barrel for wear after the first 10,000 rounds or so.
Congrats on a good purchase.
