Finally took my conceal carry class. I'm thankful that the instructor made accommodations for me as I'm unable to sit and stand for long periods. Just got back from the Sheriff's Office. Let the waiting begin. Wish me luck.:wavey:

    Congrats!

When I got my first carry permit, the fingerprints were done with ink......in and out of the Sheriffs office in 5 minutes. Now they use the digital fingerprint machine......in and out in 20 minutes.

It's fun when they have to do some fingers 4 or 5 times.

Magnus - Welcome to CCW. I also just completed my class and got the paperwork and fingerprinting etc done last Tue so am in the waiting phase also. In the meantime I have begun OCing for the practice and feel of carrying in general. It has been a positive experience even with one MWAG incident. Once I get the permit I will make the decision of when to OC and when CC. But this gives me a jump on the whole thing.

Again, Welcome. I'm learning a lot.

Got mine here in Iowa last year. No fingerprints required. Shall issue, NRA firearms safety course, 2 page application, $50.00 for 5 years, 5 days later had the permit.

Is fingerprinting required in your locale?

Wow, I remember getting mine (1991)

Went in, filled out request for permit, paid my $10, waited for eternity, about 15 minutes, they came back and handed me a paper permit with no picture.

No prints, no classes, walked out and put a Glock 21 on my belt. Was a good day.

    Congrats.

Being fingerprinted about twenty times without getting my 'Good Guy' card is even lamer.

Maybe you should reconsider the things you do with your friends.....

    :0

Had a neighbor kid who complained about local city Police. He kept getting pulled over. Seems his friends (who he had in pickup with him) were KNOWN to take anything not nailed/bolted down well... (and had been caught many times)
He took my advice and dumped them. Police ignored him. (He did claim part of reason he was friends with them is they never took anything from him/ his parents growing up...)

I have only been printed once. When I was done with that job one of last things I did is retrieve my print cards. :)

You've been wearing gloves, right?

Good deal Magnus. I got mine in 2004 and initially went to a local police substation for the prints. The officer there told me they could only do ink and it might take as long as 90 days before I received my CCW with ink and suggested my going downtown to the main station for electronic prints. I did so and received my license in 20 days. Welcome aboard pal.

Yes being fingerprinted is required. Makes you feel like a criminal. Let's see, it's $75.00 for the class. $100.00 to the Attorney General, $32.50 to the Sheriff and just over $10.00 for a couple passport pictures. $217.50 is a big hit for someone like myself.

never done the electronic prints, even though a year or two back TX went to L1 or w/e.

I will say on a couple fingers when I got them taken down with ink, I had to have a "re-do" 4-5 times.

Took a whole lot longer when I got mine. The machine was brand new and that jailer hadn't used it before. It was quite the experience considering they even charge a fingerprinting fee on top of the permit fee.

On a similar note, I always found it ridiculous that they made you get re-fingerprinted in order to renew your CHP if you let it expire. I guess they think a person's prints change...

Since it seems to be the trend....

I got my paperwork submitted yesterday. $65 class, $90 to county sheriff's department for background check. Finger prints required. Wake county is shall issue so thirty to sixty days and I should be good.

Girl doing prints was fast and efficient. No more than 3 minutes for actual prints. The thirty minute wait to get them done was annoying.

    All the Best,
    D. White

They only fingerprint twice those who look particularly suspicious.

Its a shame you have to pay that much. That cost is going to stop alot of people from getting theirs.

Ours cost $20, walk in, fill out form, walk out 15 minutes later with a 5 year permit.
