So I recently watched this amazing movie again for the umpteenth time. I can't express how much I love this movie.

Something else hit me when I watched this movie that really hit me hard. The people in that country, live in a place where there aren't any real rules. They can be killed for no reason and no one would bat an eyelash. Their standard of living is unfortunate. No real schooling, no real avenue of success.

What hit me was that our soldiers do their duty, they go to hell and back. They leave the comfort of home. It doesn't matter if their home is upper class or lower class because even the lowest standards of living in this country has clean water, TV,a place to get clean food, limitless amounts of technology from cell phones to facebook. Most people take it for granted. And the fact that our troops willingly leave paradise to face evil makes me forever grateful.

I'll never be able to express my appreciation enough, to those who come back, and especially for those who didn't...

From the bottom of my heart, Thank you :patriot:

Thank Clinton and his crew for not wanting to send in armor or air support.

I read (so don't kill the messenger) that the character Grimes, played by Ewan McGregor, was based on the actual soldier John "Stebby" Stebbins, who was convicted of raping his six year old daughter and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

I couldn't finish the book and will not watch the movie. My blood pressure went sky high while reading the book.:steamed:

There must be a special spot in hell for all those politicians involved.

I had a very hard time finishing that movie - knowing I was watching a reenactment of an actual event was really tough. I marvel at the bravery and sense of duty these men displayed, but I gain no pleasure in watching them die, movie or not.

I guess it makes me feel a bit guilty to seek entertainment from it, I dunno.

Anyway, superbly made movie, just kind of hits a soft spot for me.

If you can find (or rent) the 3 dvd set of "Blackhawk Down" watch it.
    1st dvd is the movie
2nd goes thru special effects and the training the actors did for the movie. Actual training time with Rangers and Delta force, etc. Neat to watch that part. And commentarry from the actual men who were there.
3rd dvd is clips from the news and a tv special (frontline I think)
Read the book as it gives you more actual detail and info.
Some of the characters in the movie are composites of two or three people.
    Great movie.
