    Howdy all!

New here! Shawn from southern Illinois :) I just bought a Glock 23 (40 cal) and very excited to have it. I was going to go with a hi-point handgun but after reading about how cheap they were and since I have always wanted a glock, I bought my 23 used but pretty good shape for about $500.00. Any special tips or info I should know about my glock? Also, I am considering a career in police work and wondering if my glock is a generally approved service weapon from yall LEOs in the mix?

Other than that, an intro, I am 25 years old, male and currently a coal miner. I am wanting to get into hunting and just joined the NRA today :p I also get into weather and I chase storms and tornadoes :) I am also into the Masonic Lodge where I have been a 3rd degree Master Mason for about 3 years now.

I live in southern IL in the country and love being a country boy! I drive a dodge dakota 4x4 and listen to classic rock and country...

    Thats it for me :D

Congrats! The G23 is awesome and you won't regret it. Only things to really be aware of: Don't shoot unjacketed lead. Don't shoot reloads unless you did the loads yourself and are very experienced with reloading and with Glocks. Don't get oil in the firing pin channel. Anywhere the Glock manual says to use a drop of oil, they mean a small drop of oil. If you don't have an instruction manual, you can write to or call Glock:

Good Cleaning/Lubricating video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fx0-hMFako (in this video he uses grease to lubricate the rails, it's not necessary - regular gun oil will do fine)

You picked a fine weapon, I think the G23 is one of the better choices here. Good luck

My first glock was a 23. I have had mine for about 7 or 8 years and still have it. Only had one problem and that was with reloads from someone that I trusted. Never again. I reload all my own ammo and have never had a problem. By the way welcome

    Hello from a Hoosier neighbor!

I have a G23 as well! Great all-around gun. Mine is my preferred CC weapon as well as my HD weapon.

Anyways, I've owned a Gen I for many, many years and just bought the Gen III to upgrade. I'm in the process of breaking in the new one until I am confident enough to bet my family's lives on it.

    My recommendations?

    Get some nightsights.

Get a rubber Hogue grip - the plastic is still slippery no matter how tactile they make it.

Get the trigger smoothed out by a qualified gunsmith. Brand new those triggers have this plasticy resistance still.

I use leather holsters for mine and they works well. One is a paddle holster, the other is a horizontal shoulder rig.

Mine shoots the Winchester White Box, Federal FMJ, and Federal JHP lines flawlessly.

I've owned my Gen I for 10 years and I can count on one hand the number of misfires it has had with thousands of rounds through it.

It is the gun I bet my life on.

Welcome to glock talk, you did make a great choice in the 23, I have one and its a great, sweet shooter. Now you can get a barrel for for 357 sig and a 9mm barrel and 9 mm mags and shoot all three cal. of ammo.( if its a 3rd gen.).

I also just picked up a Glock 23 today after my 3 day wait. The only thing I added was a G17/22 smooth trigger and a Lone Wolf flush backstrap plug.

I wanted a .40 just to have one but now I am wondering why I didn't get the G19. Oh, well. I plan on buying an original G21 to keep my G21SF company so a G19 will just have to wait.

    Does yours look like this?
