why not simply ask for references when dealing with a potential seller/trader?
there are many folks who have been on various sites for a year or so, but have little traffic in way of dealing done with other members....
why do i mention this?
if you ask for references this usually flushes out the would be thiefs......
folks who have done deals through FFLs and ftf build a rep and can give you references without hesitation if theyre already not a legit recognized member somewhere.....
i see a few folks getting ripped off now and then on various sites by members who have been a "member for a year or more but have 25-35 postings and no dealings to varify their honesty....but theyll ask you to send your gun or money to them....
i think ive averted two "deals" now since ive asked for some references because the potential transactioner failed to respond at all to the requests......
not evey transaction will be a smooth one, but at the very least it will have a basis of honesty from a legit seller/trader/buyer......
i do not send m.o., i will wait for a check to clear, i like the abilty to trace my checks and can get better fraud inv. if something goes wrong opposed to a m.o., and i send a check only to folks who can verify thier previous good dealing with others....
saa you have to start somewhere? then get some ftf deals under your belt to build a rep for being a square dealer....get established as a regular contributor to posts with some meaningful insight, barring the occasional smart-ass remarks, we all do that sometimes....
meet other g.t. members for an outing or two....
bottom line, its easy not to get cheated on a deal if a little commonscense and caution are allowed to over ride the star glazed look in your eye over a potential gun deal....
happy trading, buying, selling...
