^^^Even though I knew about the 'ankle grabbers', I was sitting in a navigators seat one day when they grabbed me. Scared me for a second or two.
And of course the radar navigator was the jump master for the extra crew members.

I did this for my 50th birthday. It was the most terrifying thrill of my life. I'd do it again in a heartbeat, but my wife said no...she couldn't handle another heart attack lol.

Gave it a go back in the 1970’s. Five solo’s. Tandem jumping seems strange. Like someone here posted, height concern for me would be more in line with being on tall structure, where you have some reference to the ground.

Only had a parachute on once. Orientation flight in ROTC around Chicago in a C-119 for a bunch of cadets.

No training except by the crew chief; “ if you jump out, pull this D-ring “.

That was quite enough for me.

This one time, I was doing a solo jump out of a lear when my static line got snagged on the door frame and I had to cut away most of my gear to get loose.

I ended up landing safely in the jungle.

Complacency can be a killer. I've seen a few videos where ALL of the straps weren't connected/tightened, and one where that happened to a guy going for a ride on a hang glider... the latter BARELY made a safe landing just before falling off... the pilot was holding him on and trying to find a quick landing spot in the mountains.
One of the tandem jumps, an elderly woman wasn't securely strapped in! She won't forget that one! She almost didn't make it to the ground with the instructor hanging on to her!
A bungy-cord jumper almost jumped off a bridge without connecting and strapping in the lower straps. He was on the ledge and someone stopped him, I think.

I wasn't sure anyone would get that.
