After debating over what rifle to start with for a couple of years I finally picked a black SCAR 16 for my first.

Put 200 rounds through it last week end and had a blast.

I shot one for the first time last weekend.

I believe that the SCAR, at least the .308 one I shot, is the pinnacle of doitall firearm technology. Seriously, a compact, folding, .308 that fires with less recoil than an AK and is accurate (and authoritative) as far as one can see...

Looks great man! Congrats on the new rifle. I have a 17 myself. You cant go wrong with either option. What optics are you considering? I have had my 17 for almost a year now and I still cant make a definite decision on optics.

Damn I am jealous lol. I held one in the gunshop a couple weeks ago when I picked up my AR. I am stocking up on ammo and reloading supplies right now, but after that is done I am saving my money and buying a SCAR 17. Will probably get rid of my AR in .308 to help fund it, but they are awesome weapons and I think FN makes great products. Only thing now is I have held a POF and LWRC, which is throwing a wrench in my decision now lol. Lack of aftermarket parts from FN is the only downside to me.... Congrats and sorry for my rant

No need for aftermarket anything, they come perfect from the factory. Like a BMW but.... The perfect shooting machine.

I love the SCAR platform. I have a 16, and have three 17's. I have one with an Aimpoint, one with a 2x ACOG, and one with a Leupold Tactical. My favorite is the ACOG. Perfect for almost anything. Congrats.

Had the tan one, sold it and went back to the M4 setup. Watch your hands when you rack that charging handle wtih an optic on it ;)

They're really nice guns, but they don't offer anything that the AR doesn't. They are something different though hope you like it

I will intentionally avoid the piston vs. direct impingement issue with this, because I really don't want this thread to nosedive down that rabbit hole. I will say that the SCAR 16 is a much better option if running a short barrel and/or a suppressor, and the SCAR 17 kicks the crap out of any AR10 variant in every way possible (except maybe long range sniping).

well and aftermarket support, and accuracy, and depending upon model, magazine availability.

but back on topic, SCAR's are awesome rifles. I think you'll come to enjoy it OP. If you are considering SBR'ing it, make sure to do your homework. Extra/spare/replacement barrels are about as rare as hens teeth.

Congrats! My first "black" rifle was an FDE SCAR-16S. A fantastic rifle for sure. I'm a big FN fan.

    Here's mine:
