Too bad. After hearing Ventura's side of the story I think he was in the right and Kyle was just "embellishing".

    Good.

Sometimes, even if you are "right", circumstances demand you be a man and do the best thing.

Ventura is acting like a conceited POS.

I think Jesse Ventura should let it go although he asked Chris Kyle while he still was alive to apologize and set the record straight, something that Kyle never did even knowing that Ventura could come after him for slander.
Chris Kyle is a known liar and not because he's dead people should lie about the way he was.

I am not aware of anyone I know or have met that has never told a lie. Wouldn't that make them all liars? Every child I knew or met told lies to try to get out of trouble at least once. Maybe they learn that lying is sometimes a worse action than whatever they think they are going to get in trouble about.

Most people I know have told lies to spare someone's feelings. "Grandma, I love the sweater you knitted me for Christmas."

Telling lies to impugn someone is a bad thing. I suppose that is what you mean. Or maybe some (all?) of his "war stories" are embellished, or out right fabricated. Some people feel compelled to lie to look better or feel better, even when the truth is more than good enough(i.e. no reason to lie). I don't get that one.

I am not sure Jesse's reputation was hurt by what Chris Kyle said. Jesse has actually said and done enough to damage his image. Besides didn't someone in the entertainment field say "there is no such thing as bad publicity?"

The appeals were not over whether Chris Kyle lied about Ventura. Kyle himself acknowledged in sworn video testimony that his story about "tables flying" at the bar and him "decking" Ventura was untrue. Ventura is vindicated on that count and has been for quite some time. All that remained up for discussion at the original trial was whether there was any form of altercation at all, and the jury determined that there had not been.

What was at issue in the appeals was whether Ventura suffered financial damages as a result of Kyle's lie, and if so, what level of award he is due. The Minnesota courts had awarded Ventura 1.8 million dollars in damages, but now it may be kicked back to the lower courts in order to have that award amount re-evaluated.

Yeah....this is over damages. The slander/fabrication/lies are still proven.

Sometimes "correct" and "right" aren't exactly the same...

Agreed. Ventura is a class-A asshat. That being said, it appears that he was telling the truth when he said that the whole "bar fight with 'Scruff-face'" described in Kyle's book was false.

Since when did being dead award one the ethical or legal high ground?

And JV isn't suing Kyle's widow (or rather, any money awarded wouldn't come from her), but rather the book publisher's insurance. So this is really about a 1.8 million dollar paycheck for JV that won't hurt Kyle's widow in the slightest. Can't blame a guy for fighting for almost 2 mill!

Can you be more specific about how he should "man up"?

It's not about the "high ground", it's about not being "in the ground."

What is your point as it relates to this thread topic? I can name a lot of people that are in the ground. It's not relevant.
