Had a fatal shark attack here in Maine the other day. (actually southern Maine) But after reading the article is says "unprovoked" shark attack. I want to know if even here in Maine if there are people stoopid enough to "provoke" a shark??

Meanwhile I'll take my chances with the snapping turtles in the lake.

HARPSWELL – A woman has been killed in an apparent shark attack off the coast of Maine, a rare occurrence that has only been recorded once before in the state by an unprovoked shark.

A spokeswoman for the U.S. Coast Guard said the woman was bitten off Harpswell on Monday.

She said two kayakers helped her get to shore, and an ambulance provided further assistance.

The name of the woman was not available Monday.

A New England shark expert says there has only been one unprovoked shark attack recorded in Maine.

Along with the idiocy of the "unprovoked" line, I'm going to call a foul on the use of the word "alleged shark attack". This isn't a black man were talking about here so why are they "alleging" that it was a shark?

The media of today really sucks.

Probably the most famous sharks attacks in our history happened not too far from Maine (relatively speaking). Matawan New Jersey, 1916.

4 or 5 killed, more than one in fresh or brackish water (bull sharks!)

Inspired the movie Jaws from memory.

I think that movie scared me more than any other to this day and I'm a diver.

Irrational yes, but tell my brain that.

As a child of the late 70's and early 80's Jaws was mandatory watching and forever scared my psyche.

I love swimming in the ocean but I constantly watch out for sharks.

Bull Sharks have their young in mangrove swamps (fresh to somewhat brackish water) where they stay until they are large enough to go out into the ocean.

However, a large Bull Shark was caught in St. Louis, MO. They are seen in the Atchafalaya Basin. They have been found in the Zambezi River in Africa and in the Amazon River (Brazil).

    They are also very aggressive.
