I remember it well. I was in Washington DC with my parents (dad was on a business trip) and my mom and I were driving from the Washington Monument to the Smithsonian (Aerospace) Museum when we saw everyone driving around with headlights on. Shortly after we heard the news on the radio.

We lost some fine Americans on that very sad day. Sadly, with the passage of time, NASA became complacent once again and we lost a second bird to their arrogance. :steamed:

ETA: I was working on the RCS and the Shuttle-Centaur program at the time and we had it up on the big screen at work. Most of us were in shock and in fear that we had some personal responsibility in the failure. I don't think anyone made eye-contact let alone spoke beyond what was required for business for at least a week. It was like there was a plague going around and you didn't want to get to close to anyone until the cause of the failure was determined.

Remember that day vividly. I was in the 10th grade and on my way into Chemistry class when the teacher told us what had happened.

I remember that day well also. I was remodeling a house and the home owner had a huge TV and I could not believe what I saw. What was sad they had the camera on the parents live and they kept replaying it over and over again? When I was in the Army I went to Arlington Cemetery I saw their graves and plaque.

I remember that day well. I had just arrived at an army replacement center in Butzbach, w. Germany and had returned to the tv room from breakfast.

Where I live you go in your back yard and watch them lift off. When this happened I was in 6th grade watching it from the kickball field at the school. It was pretty strange. All the other launches it is just a straight line from the contrail. This was different and we wondered what happened.

When they land if I don't remember they are coming down I always jump. Sounds just like two shots from a 12 gauge when they slow down below the sound barrier.

I was in the Nany stationed in Jacksonville, Florida. On that day I worked nights and when I heard about it on TV I went outside and could see the vapor trail.

    Very sad day indeed.

I was in the High School library, and couldn't believe it was true until they turned on the TV
