    Or, maybe it is.:dunno:

A few weeks ago my hands began to itch, that kind of itch you wanna scratch with a wire brush because you can never get it to quit. Within a few hours they had swollen so badly that I couldn't close them.

I figured I was having a bad reaction to a bug bite since I had a few bumps that looked like mosquito bites. So I just tried to ignore it and put some cortisone lotion on them.

After a few days they weren't getting any better and my feet began to do the same thing, then I developed a welt on my leg that stuck out 1/2 an inch, the R.N. at work happened to notice my hands and took a look at the rest and promptly sent me home, telling me I couldn't come back till I had a doctors not saying I wasn't infectious. (She knew I wasn't, she knew if she said that I'd have to go to the hospital.)

So off to the E.R. I went. They stuck an I.V. in me and pumped in steroids, antibiotics and antihistamines plus two shots of epinephrine. It took about 10 hrs to get the itching to stop. They sent me home with an epi pen and a buffet of medications.

Two days later the E.R. Doc who had seen to me called me at home to make sure I had made a follow up visit with my normal G.P. It seems one of the tests they ran called an A.N.A had come back positive.

So now they're doing a bunch of tests to determine if I have Lupus.

Anyone know where I can get a shirt with Dr. House on it that says : It's Not Lupus!!

I thought that would be funny to wear when I go into the doc the next time!

So has anyone here been diagnosed with this? If so, how much does it effect your daily life and what do they do about it?

Ya gotta have a sense of humor, whattya gonna do?

Unfortunately I have a few other symptoms that is leading her (my Doc) to believe that I have it, I guess there's a telltale "butterfly rash" across the bridge of the nose, it's faint, but it's there, and has been for years, indeterminate chest pain etc.

Did these mysteriously show up when you woke up from sleeping? I get that pretty frequently when I wake up. Not so much swollen but it can be slightly raised. Big blotches of red that itch a bit. Commonly on my hands, sometimes on my torso as well. They usually go away in a few hours, but the bad ones leave discolored skin for a couple of days. My research, for what its worth, indicated it was some kind of histamine reaction with a big, fancy name.

Could be bedbugs, too. Some people are allergic to the bites and get all kinds of messed up.

It started in the middle of the day, and progressively got worse until I went to the E.R., 3 days. I thought it was a reaction to bug bites since most of the welts began by looking like a skeeter bite, but once the swelling went down we couldn't find any bites anywhere.

And when I say swollen, I mean I looked like I had cartoon character hands.

I have no experience with lupus, but whatever this turns out to be, I wish you the best of luck with it! Hopefully it's just something in your water!

I do believe that Lupus is more likely to strike females than males.
Lupus is very serious and can be hard to diagnose, just hope you don't have it.

I have been diagnosed with Drug Induced Lupus. My first ANA test was positive along with the Anti-Histone AB test. The last two tests my ANA has been negative.

I have been suffering from this for a year now. The prescription medicine Nexium caused my problem and it basically mimics regular Lupus. I feel fortunate that I don't have regular Lupus and hopefully I will be back to normal in another year or so.

    Hope is not Lupus.
    Are you highly stressed?

I've had similar symptoms a couple of times in my life and are related to stress.
I've done all Immune desease tests and came back negative, so stress was the "official" diagnosis when a crowd of doctors (like in Dr House) examined me.

Malar rash. I has one. I don't have Lupus, but something similar. Steroids suck, but it's a love/hate relationship. I hope they get you squared away fast.

Yeah, I'm usually stressed out about something. It's caused other problems also.

My wife was diagnosed with Lupus back in 1988. She has handled it pretty well. Prednisone is the drug that got it under control.

I don't know about the "hate" part yet, but I sure loved 'em when they got rid of that itch.

I was seriously considering flaying the skin off my hands to stop it.
