Noticed this after I cleaned my G21 yesterday after my range trip. Is this normal wear on the barrel?

Top of barrel

Bottom of barrel

Shoots just fine, and I could imagine the heat from shooting could cook things, and if this is normal, then I apologize for making a dumb thread lol. It's got about 300 rounds through it.

It is not normal wear on the barrel. It is normal wear on the barrel finish.

Just trying to be honest here, but if your gun only 300rounds through and the barrel looks like that then maybe it poses a problem with the finishing. Note the word finishing, not the actual function. Again sorry, I just don't "think" that's right for such a new pistol to be doing that. :)

Well, if it's just the finishing, I'm really not concerned with it. I bought it to be shot, not to be a safe-queen. I only put 100 rounds through it myself, the previous owner put 200 through it, and it was that way when I received it, I just never really took a close look at it before we went into my LGS to do the transfer. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't something more serious. If the finish isn't "supposed" to wear out like that, but it still functions flawlessly and something more serious isn't going on, i can live with a worn finish, lol.

Yes, finish wear on friction areas is normal. In fact, the wear should be used as a guide when lubing - wherever you see shiny areas, that's where light lubing is needed.
I oiled the slide and barrel just before and after the range yesterday, but that is a good thing to keep in mind. I will make sure it hit those spots a little more carefully in the future. Thank you.

Try a very light coating of Slide Glide or TW25b synthetic on barrel/slide contact areas.

SIG now furnishes a small packet of TW25b with new handguns.

Let me be the first to say, it looks like the previous owner put a lot more than 200 rounds through it. While it isn't hurt any, I think the round count is a LOT higher.

Perfectly normal. Mine looks exactly like that and has run fine for thousands of rounds.
I agree that it seems to be excessive for only a few hundred rounds. Perhaps the previous owner didn't keep a good record of rounds fired.:whistling:
Don't worry about it. Your Glock will still be running great when your grandchildren inherit it.

I have a Gen 4 G22 with 3000 plus rounds and it is not even close to having that kind of where on the finish. Bet it has had many more round through it than 300.

You beat me to saying that, I agree ! My G21SF RTF2 is a LEO special run, owned first by an LEO, then by another owner and now by me. I have only put 100 rounds thru it so far. There is NO wear showing on the barrel.

Looks like our Glocks

More like our G23 which is 15+ years old with more rounds then I care to count.

If it shoots nice and makes you happy then that is all that matters - throw some lube on the friction points and have at it.

Be safe,
Doc

I'm sorry, man. I swear I'm not laughing at you, but you got SERIOUSLY scammed. Whoever lied to you, and sold you that gun, go whip his ass. First, let me make it clear that nothing's wrong with the gun. But that jerk straight LIED to your face. I have a G21SF with over 6,000 rounds, and it has almost zero wear on the barrel. Maybe the guy just ran it dry, but I would guess that gun has at least 5,000 rounds through it. Maybe it was just fired dry and with grit in it, but that's a LOT of FINISH wear.

After all the lying is done, it really doesn't matter. I would be pissed about the guy lying to me, but it doesn't really matter. Nothing's wrong with the gun. Luckily, it's a Glock, and it will last for many more tens of thousands of rounds. Just know that you CANNOT trust that guy. He is a liar. Don't buy from him again. By the way, could you post some pictures of the whole gun?

Here is a picture of my G21SF at about 6,100 rounds. It's not the best shot of the barrel, but you can see it. I keep my barrel and muzzle opening well lubed, so there's little wear. I'm guessing the previous owner just didn't lube the barrel. It's still a good gun.
