I like a serrated edge on my knives. Not opposed to plain edge knives but for cutting thick rope or sawing through a tree branch in a hurry, you can't beat good serrations. I never sharped the serrated portion of my knives but they shred through most anything pretty darn fast. Bottom line...its good to have serrations for a survival knife. However, I would never buy a knife with a fully serrated blade unless there was some special purpose for that knife. So sad to see knives sharpened like that. The company should make it right but unfortunately most companies today don't take responsibility for their mistakes.
