I saw a clip on tv awhile ago that the nypd is using all glock 19.
No truth whatsoever;
Currently authorized service weapons;
S&W Model 5946
Sig P226 DAO
Currently authorized off-duty weapons;
Sig P 239 DAO
Kahr K9 No new authorized; only authorized for those who already have it
S&W 3953 TSW
S&W 3914 DAO
Authorized and issued are not always the same. Many agencies issue one brand and authorize several. That is normally decided by the
F T U.
I am talking issued.
I am talking as a retired Lt. of the NYPD. The duty weapons are ISSUED to the recruits after they choose from the three listed.
The off duty weapons are AUTHORIZED for purchase by MOS at their own expense.
Forgive me if I wasn't clear enough the first time.
When seanmac45 started his issue weapon was a single shot cap and ball.
so you were on your third dept. by then?
Indeed; he was my FTO.
You think you are being clever and I don't know that by FTO you mean "First Troglodyte Officer".
Hush, When Sean or I want an opinion from you will we beat it out of ya.
Any reason behind the Glock 19 and not using the Glock 17? Just curious...
Midgets and Women......................
No J frame on the off duty list? Wow.
I asked that question, why G19 over G17. I'm sure someone will correct me but it came down to ammo issue.
G19: 3 x 15 + 1 = 46 or one box of ammunition.
G17: 3 x 17 = 1 = 52 or more than one box of ammunition.
Over the 25 or 30 thousand cops in NYPD who carry Glocks, that's a LOT of extra ammunition to have to issue.
I could very well be wrong, but that officer's theory made sense to me at the time.
Dragoon that was a big step up from your issued flintlock was it not.
Believe it or not they didn't want any of the issued duty weapons to have a different magazine capacity. That's the reason we were given. If you were on the NYPD you would understand that often the most illogical answer is the correct one.
And for the record, Dragoon's first issue weapon was a caveman club.
Was he in the same unit as Strom Thurmond at one time ??
You had the flint part right, but it was used for making arrows, not for a frizzen...
I hope thats an age reference and not a hypocritical bigot reference. I don't get the impression that Dragoon is a hypocrite or a bigot... but I kinda got that vibe from Strom, go figure!
