I live in Massachusetts and there is only 1 GSSF shoot in my area and that's in New Hampshire. Is it worth joining for just 1 shoot? Or are there other things that make it worth it?

Now that is a question only "You" can answer. If all you plan to do is only shoot 1 match and not go to any other matches then; probably not. I live in the Florida Panhandle and my son-in-law and I travel to 10 to 12 matches a year. We have been as far from home as Richmond, VA, Lexington, KY and this past weekend we flew to Las Vegas for a new match that was added to the schedule. I know not everyone cares to travel that much and I know many can't for numerous reasons. That is why I say this is a question that only the individual can answer.

As to benefits. Great family oriented competitive matches, free Glock armor service at every match, and to us most importantly is making many new friends. It just doesn't get any better than a good pistol competition and a great causual dinner with good friends to top off a great weekend.

it only costs $25 to join, and you could win a gun at the match. i won a gun at my 2nd gssf match even though i wasnt a very good shooter.

after you shoot your 1st match, you might decide that other matches arent so far away after all. lots of people drive long distances to get to gssf matches. from MA, you could easily drive to NJ, NY (2 matches) and PA in addition to the NH match.

i say go ahead and join and shoot the NH match and see how you like it.

That brings up my other concern. Even if I were to win a new gun I couldn't take it. New Glocks are not allowed into MA. Only Glocks made before October 21st 1998 can be sold in this Godforsaken state thanks to our Communistic Attorney General^9

youre in one of the few states worse than where i live (maryland). if you win a gun, they actually give you a certificate that can be redeemed for a gun. i'm not sure, but maybe you could sell that to someone that lives in a different state.

    or you could move ;f

Sure :) I'm a member, and I only shoot 1 match a year (Fulton, New York). It's always a lot of fun, and there's always a chance you might win a new pistol, or some cash, so why not?

I think for the initial 25 dollars you get a hat, Glossy magazine, 3 GLOCK report newsletters, and the opportunity to compete in one of the best matches available for the new to great shooter. Friends and fun are a side option if you pursue them. For the first year it is definatly worth it.

After the first year you will either be hooked or not care. Your question is now answered. :)

You also get a GSSF cap as part of the $25 membership, too! It all depends on how much the 1 shoot is worth to you...

Nawg ship your Glocks to me. The wife and will see to it they get their proper feedings.;)

Look into the GSSF indoor matches too.

I was stationed in Boston, Massachusetts long time ago. I wouldn't want to live there but sure enjoyed Nashoba(?) Valley Skiing! Haven't been back because of the unfriendly gun laws there.

So, there's a shoot in NH and highways everywhere else.

You'll join, shoot one time the first year, and want to improve, and by the time the second year comes around you'll be a better and more traveled shooter.

Simply yes....I am a Lifetime member....I hobbled to my first match 4 years ago and simply found another very good reason to get up in the morning. Since then I feel I have been supported and mentored by many people who have geniune desires for people to suceed in this sport and life in general. I am a better shooter today and after some new parts from the Doc no longer limp. The point is this Sport...this forum...these people are unique...take advantage and enjoy ;f

After my first match, I couldn't wait for the next.;f So, I sarted traveling to other out-of-state matches. If you need to move, Georgia is a good location. You have the Conyers match, 2-2 1/2 hr drive to South Carolina, 6 hr drive to Jax, Fla, about 6 hrs. to North Carolina match. Also about 7-7 1/2 hrs. to Lexington, Ky. And about the same to Orlando,Fl.

Just a suggestion, how about a match in Alabama.;W ;W

Stupid laws, a Glock made in 1997 is legal and one made in 1999 is not. Where is the wisdom in that? I say stay there and try to get those laws changed, but in the mean time join GSSF, travel around and enjoy the matches.

I say yes to joining . Your chances of winning cash are better than winning a Glock ahyhow. I f you won a gun maybe a dealer in another state would trade an older model for your new one? The Glock armors will keep it in new condition for you if you are a member of GSSF. There is always a way!

I had the same reservations this time last year. I saw the Glock add that said Buy a Glock, learn safety, and shoot a GSSF Match" I have been shooting for a number of years and decided to try it out in Nashua.

One thing, I had worked the GSSF match the year before as a Range Officer who did not own a Glock so I had seen the stages.

I bought a G17, test fired it to make sure it went bang, joined GSSF, and went to the match. I RO'd again but shot the match also. I won $50. Paid for my match, paid for my membership, and I had a good time.

This year, I will go again, and will probably go to at least one more soimewhere else.

Send me a PM and maybe we can ride together since I am in Southern MA and it is a little easier to go with someone the first time.
    Round_Gun_Shooter@comcast.net

Look at it this way, living in MA, we need to support any and all firearm related groups if we are going to change anything.

BTW, don't worry about winning a gun until you do. Someone will always buy the certificate from you at a fair price.
    Best regards,

    Gary

Go ahead and join GSSF. It's worth it. Move to Ohio. We are 3 hours from the Inday match, about 2 hours (from Columbus) to the Marietta match and about 3 or 4 hours from the Lexington match if you live in Columbus. Of course it's about 6 or more hours to the Topton PA match and more if I go to GA, but the first three I mentioned are the ones that are close to Columbus. And we just passed a CCW law so now Buckeyes can carry concealed weapons like most of the other states!
