For me, this is a serious question.

(Twitter is) "...claiming to be both a platform and a publisher at the same time. Each has different roles, responsibilities, and protections. You cannot be both, yet these organizations are trying to claim the exemptions and protections of both while also eschewing the responsibilities of both roles."

The Grey Lady runs a story on women "feeling" poop-shamed at work.

I understand the arguments for censorship, but I also believe that any and all attempts at censorship should be publicly debated BEFORE any implementation.

Maybe Glocktalk is not a place for me anymore.

What the **** is it with people wanting too talk about **** and taking a dump? Christ me and my friends talk all sorts of stupid things but we never talk about taking a dump. RussP closed two threads today about this subject thankfully and plainly said don’t open anymore threads about it. Why do you wanna talk about **** and taking a dump? Go to Facebook and discuss that bull****.

We often hear complaints about Glock Talk (GT) censoring free speech.
First Amendment protections are a limit on a government. GT is not a government.
Glock Talk is, and has always been, a privately-held discussion website with its own rules.

When you join GT, you agree to abide by certain rules when posting content or interacting on the site.
The rules can and do change; it is the user's responsibility to stay up-to-date on all rule changes.
The rules are there to try to keep discussions civil and within certain boundaries.
Uncivil discussions (insults, name-calling, threats, etc.) tend to drive users away.
Same for certain unbounded discussion topics (porn, religion to excess, body wastes, etc.).
There is a lot of gray area in the rules, but the Moderators do their best to apply them equally.
If you violate the rules, you will be reminded of them, and asked to post within them at all times.
If you severely or repeatedly violate the rules, you will be formally banned, and asked not to return.
If you chafe when posting under these (very common) rules, you can/should go somewhere else.

This is not unreasonable, and not at all complicated.
Thousands of people use this site every day without problems.
If you have questions, the Moderators/Admins will discuss them with you.

Some Glock Talk forums also have forum-specific rules, such as Political Issues, General Glocking, and the Classifieds, for instance. Users should always check the top of each forum/sub-forum main page for Sticky Threads or Announcements for that forum.

I guess I'm confused.

On Glocktalk, openly racist comments, and threads, are tolerated, but a non-racist thread about a non-racist NYT article is locked (because, apparently, the administrators are triggered by the word 'poop'). On Glocktalk, racism is ok (apparently), but 'poop' is bad.

Bren authored an outstanding post for a similar thread, which I hope he copies and pastes over here. There are risks when a company pursues either path, but in the end, they should not be able to pursue both.

You know you can report racist comments. I have.

It's not up for debate.

Your input is not needed.

Specific topics are not allowed.

Shining light on biases will not be tolerated.

The powers that be don't care who leaves because of it.

We're debating the nuances of publisher v. platform because of poop thread censorship?
