I understand the physiological differences in muscle mass requiring separate divisions for the sexes in many events (such as hammer throw :) ) - but is there ANY event where men and women compete against each other (not talking "mixed doubles" here)?

I mean, even CURLING is separate events - why is that?! :headscratch:

To save Shuster the embarassment of getting his butt kicked by the Denmark girls.

They weren't always segregated. During the cold war East Germany had some curious specimens.

Equestrian events are the only events I know of not separated. Riflery use to be an open event and a woman won the silver medal in free rifle in 1976. Now they have separate shooting events for men and women

It's probably to save the trouble and headache of having to deal with women crushing men and vice versa. And the losers *****ing about it.

There is also a chance that the curling court (in this case/example) or whatever they call it is slightly shorter for women than it is for men.

    Sailing.

While sailing has some "girls only" classes, most of the sailboat classes are "gender-blind", allowing lady skippers and crews as well as men. In the three-person keelboat class its not usual to see a mixed crew. Likewise there have been some very successful husband/wife teams in dinghy classes

That said, in recent years women pressed for, and received, their own keelboat and dinghy classes. That's been good for the sport, but the reality is that most one-design regattas are gender blind and men nearly always win.

I believe there also is mixed badminton? Hard to believe, though.

I'm glad the sports are separated.

    Men and women are different.

One is not better than the other in general, but as relates to sports, specifically, Olympic competitions, men are superior.

Women can chime in with "not figure skating" or "not gymnastics", but they'd be wrong. A few women would hold their own, maybe even win, but men would dominate overall.

Not Olympic related, but there is a reason that the NHL, NBA, MLB, NFL, PGA, etc., aren't "men's leagues", they're just leagues. Because feminists claim "women are equal!11!!", we let them play. OTOH, the WNBA, LPGA, etc., are female only.

Cristiane Santos dominates in the girls show, but let her fight any male near her weight/experience and it would make for a "Lifetime" special. Annika and a few others showed up on the PGA, but let Phil (trying to avoid the jokes) show up on the LPGA and the women might as well stay home.

Basically, mixing genders in the Olympics wouldn't be fair.

Not the most politically correct post I've ever made, but it is what it is. Male professional athletes are superior to female professional athletes.
