I shot a doe last week in Ga with a .270. Not much left to the front end as bone fragments from the fore shoulder wrecked the aft shoulder. I have many other rifles and so I am leaning towards the .243 or 30/30 for this next hunt. I usually hunt in Maine so a .270 is not over kill for those bigger deer. What I am wanting to know is, if I shoot a deer with a 30/30, will it wreck the shoulders. I can neck shoot with the .243, but unless the deer was under 50 yards, I would shoulder shoot with the 30/30. Any opinions. Realize these deer are small. The doe I shot last week was 75 pounds dressed. I am out there to get dinner, so I want them down quickly, with a minimal amount of bloodshot meat.
