I jsut got an iPhone and can't figure out how to make ringtones out of the songs I have loaded onto the phone. It looks like I'm going to need an app to assist me in this. Anybody know of a good one?

I created my own by clipping a song to :30 and renaming it in iTunes to a .m4r extension, but haven't tried it in the latest version.
I'll test it out tonight and post the steps if it still works.

I've had to use Garageband everytime to cut it down to the right size and save it as m4p (AAC encoding). Then I had to manually change it to m4r extension. Bottom line it itunes will not let you add anything to your ringtones folder that is not m4r extension, and the clip has to be a certain length or it won't let you either. you may be able to find a converter if you don't have a Mac.

This is the best free ringtone site I have found: http://audiko.net/

There are thousands of already-created ringtones to choose from, you can upload music from your computer and make a ringtone or you can even strip sound from a You Tube video and turn it into a ringtone.

The ringtones can be sent to a wide variety of different phones, or downloaded in several formats, including iPhone. I've used this site extensively and the ringtones work great on the iPhone. Eric

Seriously, try http://audiko.net/ . This is the slickest system I have found for making ringtones. especially for the iPhone. I have pulled dozens of ringtones off of You Tube videos and use them on my iPhone. Eric

But if you already have the song on your computer, it takes like 15 seconds to make an iPhone ringtone for it using the ehow link I posted. A lot faster and fewer steps than audiko.
Its a little different on a MAC but still super easy

You can also upload your own music on Audiko, plus there is a strong chance that fifty other people have already created a ringtone of that song on Audiko. Any time any ringtone is created, it is then available to everyone else. To each his own though. There is more than one way to skin a cat. Eric

    1. Find the song and the 30 second clip you want.
    2. right click the song and go to get info and change the start/stop time to what you want
    3. Then right click again and "create an AAC version"
    4. Once itunes creates the copy, Click and drag the AAC version to your desktop and change the extension from m4a to m4r. (then you can delete the AAC version off your library and undo the start/stop time from the original song)
    5. Redrag the m4r version back to your ringtones library and sync. (or cut and paste the m4r version to where you want to store it, then click and drag to your library
    6. sync your phone.

I do this all the time. once you do it once it becomes very easy.

yeah pretty much what the other posters said. be a sucker and pay apple for a ringtone..or make it sweet and do it yourself.

i use the ring tone that chev chelios had in the movie crank. If anybody wants it send me a PM and i'll email it to you. I believe it was really small in size. Whenever i am somewhere and my phone goes off....people are always like...dude it sounds like your phone is about to die. i love it.

I used audiko to download and create a few ringtones. They show up in my iTunes ringtone folder, but I can't figure out how to transfer them to my iPhone. When I click the button to sync the ringtones, it tells me everything else (songs, pictures, videos) will be removed. It won't let me just drag and drop them into the iPhone ringtones folder like I do with my songs. Advice???

Try just dragging the file and dropping it into the iPhone, not the "Ringtones" folder. Mine wouldn't drop it into the "Ringtones" folder but added it when I just dropped the file into the iPhone.

For some reason it won't let me do that...that was the first thing I tried.
