First off, forgive me, but I'm in a state of mourning. I somehow dropped my first gen iPad and shattered the screen today. It's a very sad day for me.

But it's also a happy day, it has driven me crazy how slow it is sometimes. So now I've got an excuse to buy a fancy new fast one. Woo hoo.

So what case are you guys using that works good for you? I'm looking for something that is very flexible and can steady it in many different positions on many different surfaces. I tend to use my old iPad on the arm of the couch a lot. So needs to be useful on non flat surfaces. But also needs to protect the device so I don't shatter the screen again.

    Any recommendations?

OtterBox Defender. Reflex is also nice.

The otterbox's look good for protection, but they don't look like they have anything to help stand it up at different angles. That's a must for me.

I have dropped mine several times onto my tile floor from about 3-4' and it (Reflex) did its job. Have a 2nd ipad in a Defender and it is even more robust with a built in screen protector. They work.

I don't drop mine, ever, so I'm probably not the best person to ask.

That said, I do sometimes get into a pool with my iPhone in my pocket. No case works well for that.

CaseCrown is what I use for the iPad. It's OK, nothing amazing.

I have a Griffin Survivor case on my iPad mini (and one on my iPhone 4). It's great. It's very protective, and comes with a kickstand like device that can be used in landscape or portrait configuration.

I use this one from Apple. Seems to work well for my needs. I think Walmart carries them now, and maybe Best Buy.

This is what I have on my kids ipads. If they can't break it you can't either.

Get Microsoft Surface, it is tougher and more complete OS and experience. It comes with touch keyboard and Microsoft office.

IPad is pure consumption device, with Surface you can create and get some work done. It has full filesystem access, multiuser, microSD, USB that supports camera, external HDD and over 450million devices

It has become my favorite companion device, just love it

I had my original iPad since a few weeks after the original iPads first came out. So likely close around 3 years. In all that time, this was probably the 2nd time I ever dropped it. Unfortunately it really only takes 1 time to drop and destroy it. :steamed:

Otterbox Defender, Griffin Survivor, or Lifeproof.

Agreed with all the above I would choose one of these, I have the griffin currently on my iPad and its held up great. And if there's any chance with children or clumsy people around spend the money for lifeproof, if you spill something on it just wash it off under the sink.

My father had an Otterbox Defender case for his iPad 1.

I say "had". The case was done when it my dad left it on top of his car and it hit the pavement at over 55 mph... But his iPad was perfectly fine!

Actually, the case wasn't completely gone after that. It was rough, but usable. The cover was cracked, but it was probably run over.
