I am trying to decide if I need a 16 or 32gb model. My IPad1 is a 32gb but it really shows as a 28.6. That tells me system stuff takes up 3.4gb right off. Does the IPad3 show similar numbers? if so I may need a 32gb but I'd like to get by with a 16 if I can.

I have a 64gb which shows 57.2 gb available. This is with iOS 5.1.1.

Regardless, if you are going with a 3 get the 32gb version. Retina-enabled apps will take up more room as time goes on, and 16gb will get crowded in a hurry.

Go with the 32. It's $100 now and you can't upgrade later. If you think there's ANY chance 16 won't be enough...it won't be.

With the cloud, you can store your music, apps and videos and not take up space. Go for the 16

I would agree with this except with the retina display any graphic images are 4x as large. I would go with 32GB.

I've had a 32gb iPad 1 3G since realize date. It's not close to half full. So when I bought my iPad 3 I opted for the 16gb 4G. I don't regret getting the 16 at all. But I don't fill up my iPads with stuff either. I basically use them to surf the net on the couch every night. So don't need the space.

I do regret buying the 4G version. I recently jailbroke my iPhone and now broadcast wifi for free. So the 4G ended up being a waste of money.

If you have an iPhone I strongly suggest jailbraeking it. Best deceison I've made in a while.

Computers/devices that use RAM and ROM tend to advertise a gigabyte as 1,000,000,000 bytes when in reality a gigabyte is 1,073,741,824 bytes. This results in you getting 7.4% less storage space than advertised.
