As an out of state resident can I carry a loaded handgun in my car in Iowa? I have a Georgia CCW if that helps. Thanks.

As far as I know, Iowa has to have the unloaded gun in an inaccessible compartment (trunk, locked pistol case). Iowa does not recognize any other states permit.

    Howdy All,

    1. The above is an organization dedicated to reform of Iowa's carry laws and the RKBA. Sign up is free and ask a question or cruise around the site. Decently instructive.

    2. The Lady is one of the honcho's. I'm her driver and reloading slave.

Tom, if you're curious, Iowa Code 724.xx defines these circumstances. 357 is exactly right, you cannot transport a firearm in your vehicle in Iowa unless you have an Iowa CCW permit, or the gun is disassembled, or unloaded and kept in a secure container too large to conceal on the person and in the furthest extent of the vehicle. It cannot be accessible to any occupant.

Loaded mags may be considered 'loaded weapons', depending on who you ask. the latest word from DPS is 'no', but that changes like the weather.
