The other Iran post got me thinking about Glenn's show the other day.

Off the top of my head...

What was Iran called before it was Iran?

    Persia.

Why did they change their name and what does Iran mean?

They were great friends with the Nazis' and they were asked to change their name. Iran means Aryan in Pharsee.

Ahmadinejad has denied the holocost at the UN and his mentors were Nazis.

    ...

    About the missle.

Their missle technology is good enough to put worms and rats into the edge of space according to an expert. A crude nuclear bomb would weigh 500+ lbs and they are a long way from being able to fire a nuclear missle.

The expert said they were about a year away from weapons grade material.

    ...

President Ahmadinejad is a 12er...or someone who believes in the 12th Imam. Most Arabic people dont believe as Ahmadinejad...it's just a radical sect.

Ahmadinejad believes that the 12th Imam is their mesiah...and in order to bring him back he has to kill as many people/cause as much destruction as possible.

It sort of parallels the 7 years of tribulation with Christians...as they believe Jesus will come back after 7 years of death and destruction. Ahmadinejad wants to go ahead and start the destruction so his savior can return.

And when his savior returns, non-believers will be executed.

Christians believe the antichrist is a person; Ahmadinejad believes the United States is the anti-christ. Israel is the little satan and we are the Great Satan.

Ahmadinejad has openly said that he will vaporize Israel...and destroy the US if im not mistaken on the US part.

They have 1000's of centrifuges and have the ability to develope a nuclear weapon. While they may not be able to launch it they can still detonate it...and unlike North Korea, They will use it because of religion. Kim Jong Ill just wanted attention.

The guest expert btw was Richard Muller http://www.physicsforfuturepresidents.com/

Obama is stupid if he thinks threatening sanctions will accomplish anything...even dumber if he thinks he can reason with such a person.

    Interesting times we live in.

I have know a few people that would say they were from Persia. They did it to avoid the saying Iran and I think they knew so many Americans are poor at world geography and wouldn't figure it out. All were nice, normal acting folks.

Iran scares me more than North Korea. Religion is a huge motivator for good and evil. When you give evil a nuke, that's a problem. The Soviets were scared of us and we were scared of them. That worked out for the most part because neither of us wanted to die. Religious zealots don't have that holding them back.

Did you read my post? I think I made a strong argument that Iran is not a joke.

Based on the President's religion, he thinks it's his duty to bring back the 12th Imam by killing many people.

They are developing nuclear technology...and I have little doubt that they would use it. Reason being they dont care if they die.

Im sure you would have said nothing will happen before 9/11.

Im not really worried too much about us. But Israel is certainly in danger if they get the bomb.

yet more reasons to support Israel.
i have no doubt Iran is a serious threat to the middle east and to our interests.
it should be enough that Iran is the number 1 supplier of money and training to hamas, hezbollah but the open threats and the blatant goading of the U.S. should make us all consider moving past the quiet diplomacy stage we`re at.
(if that`s what you want to call it)
but then it was enough for me when Iranian weapons were found in Iraq and being used as I.E.D.`s
    interesting stuff though,thanks.

In your OP you got it off the top of your head. Maybe you should check your sources.

Either way, Isreal will make Tehran glow in the dark before Iran can do anything. Isreal is a cornered animal that will defend itself, I worry about Iran, but I don't worry about Isreal taking them down first... Only bad thing is if Isreal leaves too many alive, there numbers are too many on the ground... $0.02

Although the OP said that, he was summarizing Beck's show. From my brief research, I think Beck needs to check his sources on the origin of the name.

Sounds like it. I wonder is there's any truth to it though? I mean the story had to come from somewhere.

Maybe there is some truth to it?

Like maybe the Nazis asked them to officially announce the name change so it was accepted in the west?

...because they liked the Aryan context?

What is the distiction between Iranian and Persian? Sometimes the
terms seen interechangeable; at other times there seems to be a subtle
    distinction.

    I'm focusing on
the Safavid empire right now, but a more general discussion would be
    appreciated, too.

Subject: Re: Distinction between Iran and Persia
    Answered By: mwalcoff-ga on 12 Feb 2005 11:20 PST

    Hello,

    This is an interesting question.

"Iran" is the word for the country in the major language of the
country (a language that itself has several names -- Iranian, Persian
or Farsi). "Persia" is how the country was known to Europeans from
antiquity until the mid-20th century. The word "Persia" comes from the
province of Fars or the ethnic group that lived there.

According to an article excerpted at the site of the Iran Chamber
Society, the Persian government in 1935 asked other countries to start
using the native name "Iran" instead of "Persia." There are several
reasons why the government might have done that. For one, the
government might have wanted to demonstrate its freedom from foreign
influence. Also, because not all people in the country live in Fars or
speak Persian, the name "Iran" could be considered more inclusive.

A third possible reason comes from the fact that the name "Iran" is
related to the word "Aryan." The Persians, like the Nazis, claimed
descent from the semi-mythical "Aryan race" of old. The name change
may have been an attempt to curry favor with the Germans.

Some people from the country still prefer the word "Persia."

I hope this answer has met your needs. If not, please request clarification.
