Is it worth it? I picked up the InSinkErator IHW kit from HD for $200 yesterday. Debating on if it is worth the money or I should take it back. What do you think? Wife and I are currently drinking ~5 hot drinks a day each.

I grew up with one of these installed and it was worth it daily!

I now have to use an electric kettle for hot water which takes sometimes up to 5 minutes. Which really isn't that big of a deal, but the convenience of the insinkerator is phenomenal!

It is a great convenience. I have put in several. Unless they have improved the design, plan on replacing the heating tank every few years.

At five hot drinks per day each, it is well worth it. We also use ours for anything that calls for boiling water and add the food immediately. Making a pitcher of iced tea, use IHW to brew the tea. As was mentioned, it does appear that they don't last as long as a traditional water heater but I would guess that you could plan on about 10 years usage before having to get a new heater.

Just got it done. Working under the sink is like a party. Sipping some Earl Grey it just created for me. We shall see how long it lasts.

Mine have been lasting 24 to 30 months. The latest seems to be lasting longer. I complained to the company when they fail and they have sent me three units over the years.

My parents lasted approximately ten years before having to replace the tank. My wife and I's is at about three years and running. You might want to look into your water to see if adding some kind of filter would prolong the life of the tank (e.g. too much sediment, high chemical content, ...).

Well, since you bought it BEFORE you asked advice.....

I would say if it is useful to YOU, keep it.

I hooked it up to the filtered water for the fridge. We must have good water here though. My WH is 38 years old.

My parents had one put in when they renovated their condo. It was nice.

Mom sold the condo a few years ago...daddy passed away in 1993.

She moved to the mountains and should have put one in there, but didn't!
