    What a chore!!!

I'm starting with the AR & AK mags and then I will move on to pistol mags and MISC rifle mags.

I will probably organize them as follows unless somebody can advise otherwise:

    5-RND - 25-RND

    Plastic/Polymer
    Steel
    Aluminum
    Other

    30-RND

    Plastic/Polymer
    Steel
    Aluminum
    Other

    40-RND

    Plastic/Polymer
    Steel
    Aluminum
    Other

    MISC

    DRUMS

I just started and it's going to take a while because I have a wife and two young children but I am retired, so that will help (I can work on it while the kids are in school). Here we go...…. :)

I organize by carry or home defense, then by range, then by jams. All by specific gun, of course

It's been said that a clean desk is a sign of a sick mind. I tend to agree with this thought, 'not being too anal about mag storage nor do I have any specific mag related paranoia. LOL.

Needless to say, I do have a few 30 gallon tubs that contain a couple mags, but I'm saving those for the real a pack 'o lips!

I organize by gun first, then by manufacturer, then by capacity, then by any other differentiating factor. Mine are kept in a large shoe rack, and in little wire baskets within the shoe compartments. 1911 and AR types have my biggest variety. Enjoy, it's fun!

I just buy'em and then pile'em up in my storage area. Then whenever I can't find the darn thing, I'd go and buy more then wonder why I bought more.

Normally I would agree with both of you but in this case I forget what I have and I really need to know, or maybe I just really want to know.

They are scattered all over the place and I really just need to have them in one spot so I can start using the ones I bought 20+ years ago! :) LOL

Pretty much this - was buying some stuff for my Beretta ARX, picked up a holster for the APX, and saw the mag for the 32 Tomcat, so I got one of those too. Got the stuff, went to put it away in the gun closet, and found that I had 7 mags for the Tomcat (all still in the packaging), a gun I haven't shot in 30 years. I've really need to set up a holster\mag\ammo inventory list and location. This is nuts.

I thought this thread was going to be about “gentlemen’s magazines”.

    Pro Tip :

Don't spend too much time on it.
They're just going to end up at a gun show someday anyway.

On the other hand, all my wife's junk is going to end up in a dumpster.

I have black 5 gallon containers with yellow lids Dyno labeled by caliber and put magazines and ammunition for that caliber/ga in them. Some have several containers due to quantity or ammunition or magazines: 22LR, 32/380 (combined), 38/357, 9mm, 44Spl/Mag, 45ACP, 45Colt, 20ga, 16ga, 12ga, 410, 223/5.56, 6.5 Swiss, and then the 30 calibers: 7.62x51/308, 30-06, 30-06 Government to keep my Garand ammo separate, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 300Wby. They are stacked on Gorilla racks more or less by caliber.

I also have labeled bins for accessories, gear, parts, holsters, tools, reloading equipment, reloading supplies, scopes, etc. Some bins are larger than 5 gallon.

I have a rolling cart to put the bins on to get into it move it to one of my benches so I don't have to lug the things or put one on the floor and bend over to go through one. They can get very heavy.
