I keep my old dial up account active for use as a backup for when I have trouble with the broadband connection, like right now.
Of course the dial up is outrageously SLOW.
I'm using XP and IE ver 6 on this old backup computer.

My question is, can I configure IE to load only the bare bones from a web page?

Use Firefox and the adblock extension and then block all the images on a site. It will really speed it up.

I'd also add the NoScript add-on. You can block Flash, which eats up a lot of bandwidth.
