I switched careers two years ago with some pretty poor timing. Breaking into the job market as a green IT technician has been difficult at best. I had a fine contract job with HP last year, but we finished.
I had a very strong interview with the owner of a local computer service a few weeks ago, but he instead hired an IBM employee with 30+ years of experience (hth can I compete with that)?
Anyway I must have made an impression on him because he called last week asking me to just sign on and help out.
And Friday I signed a noncompete, W-4, and the I-9......I'm hired!
The money is great and this is pretty much paid training right now, I have learned quite a lot in just one week.
Just wanted to share the news, keep your chin up, there ARE jobs out there!:wavey:

    Congrats on the new job.

Not that I wouldn't have done the same thing (signing the No-Compete), but No-Competes REALLY piss me off. Companies want to have a say in your professional life, even AFTER they stop PAYING you. Now a conflict of interest thing as long as you're in their employ is a totally different matter.

Handily in most "right to work" states (like Texas) they're worth just a little less than the paper they're printed on.

I do understand the theory behind not wanting your employees to steal your customers, though.

After nine months I can imaging your relief. I'm 64 and have been out of work since October, 09. I've had zero luck finding a job.

    Happy for you. Good luck.
