I’m very skinny, so slim guns are a must for me. My 1911s fit the bill for me. Plus, I shoot them better than anything else. No need to feel weird about using a solid and proven platform.

I like my sw 357mags, but I keep coming back to 1911s for every day carry...often 38 Super...but currently a Sig 1911 carry in 45 auto.

You could round off the sharp edges a little. Some holsters have a guard to protect your side.
I gotta figure something out. I'm finding Glocks too thick and squared off for IWB. I have several. I have lost a lot of body fat over the last two years and hit 32" waist at 6' and 175 lbs. though I was never very overweight. That makes the Glocks feel even more uncomfortable. I have holsters from Mark Garrity , Eric Larsen, and Rusty Sherrick, mainly. So yesterday, I was a bit impulsive and bought a new 1911- a Wilson Combat CQB in dark green Armorkote or whatever. It certainly feel heavier so we will see how it carries. I don't carry often and work from home but I should at least carry when I go out to other parts of town and am walking around those areas. If this experiment goes south, I'll just find the slimmest single-stack 9s and go down that road. I like shooting 45s but 9s are okay.
The key is to find a good holster and for me anyway, not use a very stiff belt. I have a really nice horsehide belt (I think by Sherrick) that does not fit (too large- waist 36/37 or so) and is too stiff for my bony hips, so I'm looking for cowhide and even a single layer but thick cowhide belt now. Along with a good holster with a wider backing against the body, it will be as comfy as I can get.

As many shot dead in their tracks Moro's, Nazis, Imperial Japanese, NK Army, Chinese, NVA, VC, and Muslim terrorist et al would attest!
And the majority of them shot dead with solid lead or copper jacketed hardball!

A lightweight "commander" size gets weight down with typically same reliability as full size.
My wife has a 1911 Ruger 9mm lightweight CMD that weighs about the same as a Glock 19
She prefers Ruger over Glock 19 for feel and recoil, said Glock had more recoil, same ammo.
My 13 & 14 year old boys both preferred the 9mm 1911 over Glock 19 too.
So ... I got a 1911 Ruger lightweight CMD 45 giving wife the option of larger caliber.
Loaded up 4 mags with 230 FMJ and let her try it, she shot all 4 and loaded them again.
She shot the 45 version slower than 9mm, but likes having it as an alternative.
I carried a all steel Combat Commander for about 25 years and now I have a Sig Fastback Carry, a Commander size all steel .45. For the last ten years I have been carrying Glocks so I am spoiled with the light weight, 100% reliability, and high capacity. I mostly carry subs in the .40 or 357Sig with compact mags with a mag sleeve giving me 14 rounds in a very small, lightweight package that is very shootable. If I carry something bigger it's a 30sf or a 17. Now when I strap on my 1911 it feels like a boat anchor compared to my Glocks. I still shoot the 1911 better and love the models but the Glocks have spoiled me for sure.

For Fifteen years as LEO in Texas I carried a Colt Commander.
It was not the Lightweight. It was a Gift from A Retired Texas Ranger. It had been worked over by a very Good Gunsmith.
It shot like a dream and never stuttered. It was set up for
Hardball and that was fine with me. After I left Texas and went to North Alabama, I worked as Shift Supervisor in Communications. We all carried, and I switched to a Glock G-23, and still carry it most of the time.
I still have two 1911s, a FS Springfield Loaded, in Stainless, and A Rock Island Compact, Parked.
